This has been a busy year for the Rothenberg Rooftop garden. Currently, we have two staff members, Bryna Bass and Julie Singer who implement curriculum, work with teachers on class activities and support the parent program. The Rothenberg Rooftop garden board has 17 board members who focus on marketing, funding, communication, and programming. Highlighted events from this past year are below.

Rothenberg Rooftop School Garden hosted its first Light Up Rothenberg event in the most beautiful place in the city - the rooftop garden. Close to 100 people were in attendance, viewing the impressive city of Cincinnati skyline while enjoying music, food from local restaurants and custom garden cocktails. All proceeds supported the Rothenberg Rooftop School Garden in providing enhanced education to students in an outdoor classroom.

We want to recognize the wonderful volunteers that support Rothenberg Rooftop Garden. During Art in Bloom, the Western Hills Garden Club volunteers helped the Junior Horticulture Club, an after school program, create floral arrangements. In the above picture, from the left, are Carole Jones, Dottie Lutz, Julie Royer and Kathy Weber.

Rothenberg Rooftop Garden Programs

The Rothenberg Rooftop Garden provides unique learning opportunities for the students of Rothenberg Preparatory Academy through hands-on garden-based lessons that are integrated with math, science and language arts. There are four student-focused programs: Integrated Garden Curriculum (reaching over 350 students every year), Rainbow Readers (after-school program focused on increasing literacy), Jr. Horticulture Club (after-school program that capitalizes on students' interest in science and gardening) and the Summer Garden Internship (paid internships providing valuable work skills for young people while maintaining the garden during the summer months).
