Dear Church,
In light of the dangers of incoming Hurricane Florence the church is closed for all activities through Sunday. Sunday worship and all Sunday activities are cancelled. Our Promotion Sunday breakfast is rescheduled for Sunday 9/23.
My family and I have safely evacuated to Hickory, NC. Since arriving here, I've been spending every spare moment trying to understand the dangers this storm presents to Wilmington. Every expert and resource agrees, this storm is incredibly dangerous and is aiming squarely for our area. I believe it deserves every possible precaution. It is threatening up to 10 feet of storm surge, 30+ inches of rain and recent forecasts suggest that it might stall at the coast and pummel the whole area with Hurricane force winds for an extended period of time. Even if that trio of deadly dangers were not enough, experts are warning that the area could be without power for 2 weeks or more. These condiitions will not be safe for anyone.
I know many of you have weathered many storms in Wilmington without much danger. I believe this storm is different. The safest thing anyone can do is evacuate. You are worth infinitely more than your home and your possessions. It is not too late to evacuate. If you do not have a safe place to stay, Christmount Retreat Center is offering free stay to anyone and their pets fleeing the storm. You can contact them here:
