Experience the Jokkmokk Winter Market

Already 400 years ago people in the north gathered around Jokkmokk to trade fur, silver and other necessities. In the beginning of the 17th century, the Swedish king wanted to control the northern territories and saw this as an excellent opportunity to establish a permanent marketplace to be able to draw taxes from the people. The market is still a yearly event and has developed to a festival including the market, activities, exhibitions and lectures about the Arctic. In small groups we let you discover the Sami culture and the expectant atmosphere in the centre of the town. Search for the great Sarek moose outside Jokkmokk and enjoy the sensation of silently sliding through the winter landscape behind working huskies. We will guide you to a full experience of the Jokkmokk winter market.
