Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
Have you noticed someone new on the school yard this year? I am excited to introduce Alessandra Albrizzio Robinson, Coach Robinson, our new PE teacher. Coach comes to us by way of Holy Names High School, where she successfully taught PE for many years. She herself also graduated from Holy Names High School. Coach Robinson is very excited to be at Emerson and has already gotten off to a great start by cleaning out our ball room, which had fallen into a horrible state of disarray, and by organizing all our supplies.
She began providing release period classes (teacher stays inside and preps while Coach teaches their class) to students in first through third grades this week. Thank you to the generosity of parents, the PTA has been able to supplement her hours so that students in Kindergarten, fourth and fifth grades will also receive PE classes. The only difference is that the teacher will be on the yard, assisting with the instruction as it is not a release period for them. When the full program is up and running in September, all first through fifth graders will have PE twice a week and K's will have it on a rotating basis about once a week. This is super exciting news because we now have a credentialed, expert PE teacher on board instructing our children on a consistent and ongoing basis.
You can support this program in a variety of ways. First and foremost, make sure your child wears comfortable, appropriate clothes and tennis shoes on PE days. If your child complains about having to run or exercise, you can encourage them to fully participate and to do their best. You can also continue to support the PTA's fundraising efforts -- it is due to the hard work and generosity of you, the families, that we have the funds to support PE school wide. Please notice that we teach PE all day long, starting at 8:10 and ending at 2:20. Please be mindful and stay off the field during PE classes in the early morning and at dismissal times, especially at 8:10 and 1:30 so that children can get the full benefit of their PE time and no one gets injured. Finally, when you see Coach Robinson, be sure to say hello and welcome her to Emerson!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hodge
