New Partnership with Linking Generations
The Information & Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County is pleased to announce its partnership and support for a new Linking Generations initiative –the volunteer grandparent program. The grandparent program will offer seniors in Strathcona County more opportunities to help bridge the multi-generational gap. With funding provided by Strathcona County through its 2018 Social Services Grant Program, the grandparent program has been created as a pilot project in response to a lack of opportunities for young and older generations to relate in an increasingly age-segregated society.
The grandparent program pilot project will place participating seniors into classrooms at five elementary schools in Strathcona County commencing this October. Schools on board at this time include: Ecole Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Theresa Middle School, Holy Spirit School,
Lakeland Ridge School, and Brentwood Elementary.
If you are a senior in Strathcona County, committed to volunteerism, and would enjoy the chance to
share your skills, knowledge, and experience, while providing a valuable community service,
please contact Debbie Sinclair, Linking GenerationsExecutive Director at linkgendebbie@telus.net.
The Linking Generations volunteer grandparent pilot project is supported by the Information
& Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County through an in-kind contribution
of volunteer recruitment support.
