Sparking Ideas By Visiting Other Schools
An invitation to School Visit Day - Oct. 11

As an educator for over 25 years, I’ve learned that one of the greatest ways to spark ideas and grow is to visit other schools. Just like travel to a new destination or foreign country can help one to see with new eyes and challenge assumptions, traveling to other schools allows us to gain insights and knowledge from others lived experiences.
At Mount Vernon, we’ve been on a transformation-of-school journey for nearly a decade. But what we’ve learned isn’t just for us. School Visit Day is the best way we know to share out our own lived experiences, our mission, and our vision for innovative education.
First and foremost: we want to encourage others to lead from their own missions and visions. As a Design Thinking centric school, we’ll use design thinking processes and tools to coach visitors on how to approach visits to any school, not just Mount Vernon. During the day, we sprinkle in some of our experiences with maker, design and engineering methodologies. We strive to spark the desire in others that sets conditions for learners to make and have agency for change in the world. We’ll generate interest and know-how in the ways of conducting in-house visits and being a student of one’s own school. And, lastly, because of the collection of people that join us on School Visit Day, the event ends up being a fabulous networking opportunity.
So, we’d love to have you join us for our next School Visit Day on October 11.
