Welcome Back! 2018/19 Starts Now!
For those who missed their weekly dose of GHC news over the summer break, InTouch is back in action for another fun-filled season of match and other reporting, batteries recharged for 2018/19!!
For those of you who are new to this mailing (nearly 100 of you since we last published in May!), InTouch is the best way to find out what's happening at the Club and to celebrate all the great things about hockey and GHC.

This Weekend
Junior Training Kicks Off From Friday 7 September
It's no small task to organise hockey for more than 600 players! A big well done for all of our helping hands who are getting stuck in helping deliver an excellent programme to our Juniors.We have more than 100 people offering their time and skills in both hockey and non-hockey roles.
More helpers are very welcome - and much needed - many hands make light work. Please think about getting involved - it could grow to be the highlight of your week to see how much of a difference you can make to our bright young things.
Adult Club Day Sunday 8 September
If you follow hockey on social media, you will be seeing a lot of #HockeyFest tags as clubs across the country kick off their seasons with hockey activities.
Here at GHC our Ladies will be in action including 2 matches for the 1st XI. The Ladies 4s and 5s will also take to the pitch and the 2s play Woking in the morning.
The Men's 2s are away to Camberley and Farnborough and the Men's 1s have two games on Sunday, but the rest of the Men's section will be playing in the morning. Meet 9:45 for a 10am start.

First Match Reports of the New Season
Have a look at our Ladies 1s pre-season tournament in which they hosted 11 teams (and didn't lose a match!)...
And the Under 18 Girls played with girls from other clubs in a warm-up event ahead of the Women's World Cup in July, making it to the Final...

England Hockey Player Pathway Success
GHC Players Raphael, Freddy, Isaac, Elliot (all pictured), Marc and Siena were selected for the England Hockey Futures Cup tournament 22-25 August at St Alban's HC.
This annual tournament is made up of four Regional teams from across England who play against each other and the National teams from Wales and Scotland. Marc's team (the Saxon Tigers) won Gold while Raph/Freddy/Elliot (Wessex Leopards) won the Bronze.
And congratulations to Isaac and Siena who were selected to be part of the National Age Group Squads for BU18 and GU16.
Also well done to Isaac and Ed who competed in the Loughborough School Games with Isaac's team coming first and Ed's in 3rd place.

Coach Education Sessions with GHC DoJC Dan Fox
Dan Fox delivered two coaching sessions last weekend: Coaching Young Players and Coaching Through Gameplay.
Coming up he is delivering the following sessions on these evenings:
- Tuesday 11 Sep - What to Coach: Goalscoring (CH)
- Tuesday 18 Sep - What to Coach: Defending (BW)
- Monday 1 October: 7-a-side and 11-a-side Tactics (CH)

Calling all players, parents, coaches and volunteers...you are invited to an introduction to umpiring course.
This is a practical, hands-on umpiring course for the new season. Confidence and capability guaranteed!
Delivered by England Hockey’s workforce and training manager, Stephen Tabb (he’s a guru - in charge of development of all umpires in England!).

Friday 14 September - Kit Sale and Mouthguard Fittings at the Clubhouse
Don't buy that new off the shelf mouthguard for the new season just yet!
Dr Debs Thomas can make you a custom-fitted and affordable excellent quality, comfortable mouthguard. She will be at GHC on Friday 14 September from 5.30-8.30pm.
You won't want to miss this opportunity to get exactly the right, safe, comfortable mouthguard at the beginning of the season.
Please email Debs if you are planning on coming for a fitting so she can plan.
Also note that our kit supplkier, Hawkinsport, will be at the club on the same evening selling not only GHC crested kit but plenty of hockey items including sticks, bags, gloves (EH strongly recommend a LH glove), grips, shoes, socks and more.
