Synergy Paper Funding Now Available
Collaborative teams are invited to apply for support to write a Synergy Paper, funded by the Center for Leading Innovation & Collaboration (CLIC). Cross-network translational research Synergy Papers are designed to focus on substantial challenges in clinical and translational research, intended to present new or transformed assessments and perspectives, build collaboration within and external to the CTSA Program consortium and meet the academic needs of co-authors to produce high-quality scientific publications.
The selected team will receive one year of assistance from CLIC for developing and publishing a Synergy Paper. Questions can be directed to synergy_papers@clic-ctsa.org.
The deadline to submit an application is Monday, November 5.

TIN Special Populations Toolkits
The Special (Target) Populations Toolkits, from the University of Illinois at Chicago are resources for researchers who would like to work with populations facing health disparities and underrepresentation in research, such as people with disabilities, urban youth, and members of LGBT, African American, and Latino communities.
Each toolkit includes a brief overview of important facts along with supporting literature and/or relevant databases, website resources (including links to community organizations), document samples and templates to help researchers understand and expand the special populations’ emphasis and support within their research.

Webinar: Building Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations in Aging Research
The Research Centers Collaborative Network (RCCN), funded by the National Institute on Aging is sponsoring a series of webinars to help early-career scientists understand how to build interdisciplinary research teams.
Building Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations in Aging Research will discuss key benefits, as well as some possible pitfalls, arising from collaborations between investigators with very different backgrounds. Steven R. Cummings, M.D., of the University of California, San Francisco will be the presenter, with moderator Jay Magaziner, Ph.D., M.S., Hyg., of the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

NCATS Announces New Drug Repurposing Funding Opportunities
The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) has released a funding opportunity aimed at identifying new treatments for existing drugs to address a broad range of diseases.
Through the Discovering New Therapeutic Uses for Existing Molecules (New Therapeutic Uses) program, NCATS helps academic researchers and pharmaceutical companies establish collaborations to test existing drugs and biologics for possible new uses. Selected researchers whose pre-applications are highly meritorious and relevant to NIH priorities will be matched with the appropriate pharmaceutical company.
Letter of Intent Due Date: Monday, October 1.
Application Due Date: Wednesday, October 31.

The Behavioral and Social Clinical Trials Template
The NIH is seeking comments on a Draft Behavioral and Social Clinical Trial Template intended to guide investigators through the development of a comprehensive clinical protocol for studies involving a social or behavioral intervention.
The NIH welcomes feedback on the draft from stakeholders who conduct or oversee behavioral and social sciences research. Public comments on the draft may be submitted electronically by Thursday, October 11, 2018.

Funding Opportunity: Prevent HPV-Related Cancer in HIV-Infected Individuals
URMC's Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) has announced a funding opportunity to facilitate the design, conduct and completion of clinical trials aimed at preventing HPV-related cancers in HIV-infected individuals. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) will support a network of international collaborative sites conducting prevention clinical trials in the Latin American and Caribbean region via a U54 Partnership Centers mechanism.
Each proposed U54 Partnership Center must be based on a collaboration between a research institution in the United States (as the applicant institution) and partnering institution(s) in low- and middle-income countries in the region.
Submit letters of intent by Monday, October 15.
Apply by Thursday, November 15 by 5:00 pm.
