Interbeing Sangha

Weekly Meeting

Please join us for our next weekly gathering, taking place this Sunday, September 9th, for meditation and dharma sharing, 6:30pm at Unitarian Place (Kingston Unitarian Fellowship), 206 Concession Street. Karl Hardy will be bell minding.
Being Yourself

"Be yourself. Life is precious as it is. All the elements for your happiness are already here. There is no need to run, strive, search, or struggle. Just be. Just being in the moment in this place is the deepest practice of meditation. Most people cannot believe that just walking as though you have nowhere to go is enough. They think that striving and competing are normal and necessary. Try practicing aimlessness for just five minutes, and you will see how happy you are during those five minutes."

-- Thich Nhat Hanh, The Miracle of Mindfulness

Dharma Talk

The Art of Suffering

During our Day of Mindfulness on August 25th, we listened to a dharma talk from Thich Nhat Hanh which came from a retreat held in Plum Village, August 2013, entitled The Art of Suffering. Hang has kindly shared the link to the YouTube video for anyone who might like to experience the full dharma talk, with all of Thay's wonderful insights as well as the practice of Plum Village at the retreat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVYnN8mBejY

Reading Together

Silence

Last Sunday we began reading a new book together, Silence: The Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise by Thich Nhat Hanh. To hear the call of beauty and respond to it, we need silence, and Thay offers us a path in this book to cultivate calm, even in the most chaotic of places. We look forward to sharing this book together in the coming weeks and to seeing how its insights will enrich our practice in our dharma sharing.

Kingston Sangha

Bi-weekly Meeting

Our friends at Kingston Sangha will meet this Monday, September 10th, 6:30 pm at Full Circle Health, 4 Cataraqui Street. All are welcome. Sarah Nemeth Lasko will be bell minding. Sarah Martin & Hang Nhan are now travelling internationally, bringing saigon om to Australia and Vietnam. We look forward to more opportunities to practice with our maha sangha family, and more events with Sarah and Hang when they return.
True Peace

"Peace is not simply the absence of violence; it is the cultivation of understanding, insight, and compassion, combined with action. Peace is the practice of mindfulness, the practice of being aware of our thoughts, our actions, and the consequences of our actions. Mindfulness is at once simple and profound. When we are mindful and cultivate compassion in our daily lives, we diminish violence each day. We have a positive effect on our family, friends, and society."

-- Thich Nhat Hanh, Creating True Peace
Our sangha has two teams helping to share leadership and facilitation of our meetings. Our Bell Minders Team are mindful facilitators for our weekly gatherings, as well as retreats, taking beautiful care of our friends in the practice including the bell. Our Sangha Care Team facilitates sangha care meetings, plans retreats, minds our library and resources, and coordinates outreach. If you are interested in helping with either or both, contact interbeingkingston@gmail.com for more information.
