CHURCH IN THE VALLEY
Doug Batchelor
September 14-15, 2018

Doug Batchelor has experienced great extremes in his life. His long and winding journey from anti-social drug user and troubled youth living in a cave, to the president of a worldwide ministry, it has helped shape him into an engaging speaker with whom audiences the world over can identify.

The happiness Doug searched for continued to elude him for years—until the day he found a dust-covered Bible someone left in his cave. As he read, he believed in and accepted Christ as his Savior.

This incredible speaker is coming to Church in the Valley on September 14th at 7:30 pm, and leading the worship service on Sabbath, September 15, at 11 am
.

A fellowship lunch will be served afterwards so bring your favourite dish and we will enjoy a meal together.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGES

August 25, 2018

The “Power” of Kindness!

In my devotional today, I was inspired by the words of a beautiful quotation (below). I pray that it also blesses you during this Sabbath day.
“Seize every opportunity to contribute to the happiness of those around you, sharing with them your affection. Words of kindness, looks of sympathy, expressions of appreciation, would to many a struggling, lonely one be as a cup of cold water to a thirsty soul. A word of cheer, an act of kindness, would go far to lighten the burdens that are resting heavily upon weary shoulders. It is in unselfish ministry that true happiness is found. And every word and deed of such service is recorded in the books of heaven as done for Christ. ‘Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren,’ He declares, ‘ye have done it unto Me.’” Matt. 25:40 – EGW, Counsels to the Church, p. 127.

May this positive attitude continue to be a reality in our lives, by God’s grace, as we serve the Lord and represent Him faithfully, every day.

Thank you for your love, commitment, service, and hard work for God and His Cause in the BC Conference!

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

September 1, 2018

Greetings from Brazil! I arrived here this afternoon for a two-week “vacation” while dealing with a family emergency. This Sabbath, I will have the privilege to preach at the church where my wife and I got married in Vila Velha, ES, nearly 31 years ago. Also, during another vacation in Brazil, I baptized my father there, 23 years ago. So, that church is very special to me!
A few hours ago, during the Sabbath opening devotional with my family members here, we pondered about the importance of marriage and family. Inspired by God, Ellen White wrote extensively on these topics. I selected a few quotes (below) as a form of my appreciation and love to my wife and my children and for their support as we minister together. I also pray that you, your spouse, and family continue to enjoy a loving relationship as you serve the Lord.
“All who enter into matrimonial relations with a holy purpose - the husband to obtain the pure affections of a woman's heart, the wife to soften and improve her husband's character and give it completeness - fulfill God's purpose for them.” AH, 99
“Those who are contemplating marriage should consider what will be the character and influence of the home they are founding. As they become parents, a sacred trust is committed to them. Upon them depends in a great measure the well-being of their children in this world, and their happiness in the world to come. To a great extent they determine both the physical and the moral stamp that the little ones receive. And upon the character of the home depends the condition of society; the weight of each family’s influence will tell in the upward or the downward scale.” AH, 29
“The family tie is the closest, the most tender and sacred, of any on earth. It was designed to be a blessing to mankind. And it is a blessing wherever the marriage covenant is entered into intelligently, in the fear of God, and with due consideration for its responsibilities.” MH, 356-7
“Home should be a place where cheerfulness, courtesy, and love abide; and where these graces dwell, there will abide happiness and peace. Troubles may invade, but these are the lot of humanity. Let patience, gratitude, and love keep sunshine in the heart, though the day may be ever so cloudy. In such homes angels of God abide.” MH, 393

May God continue to bless you and your family richly in your faithful service to Him!

I intend to take a little break for the next two weeks and the Sabbath messages will resume on Sept 22.

Let’s pray together for:

  1. - Our beloved spouses and children as we serve God and His people.
  2. - Our Schools – principals, teachers, staff, and especially our children - God’s Treasure - as the new school year begins on Tuesday, Sept 4.

Happy Sabbath!

In His Service,

Wesley Torres, D.Min.
President
