Get Ready! STooPS 2018 is Almost Here!

Join us on Saturday, September 15th as Bed-Stuy’s one of a kind neighborhood art crawl returns for a day of outdoor arts and performance experiences featuring dance and visual artist presentations along with children’s activities and special evening pop-up performances.

(Brooklyn, NY)––Bed-Stuy’s premiere outdoor arts and performance experience, STooPS Art Crawl returns for a sixth year on Saturday, September 15, 2 pm - 5 pm for a day full of arts installations, quilt making, poetry, dance and more from Brooklyn’s finest artists. This year’s event will be presented in partnership with The Laundromat Project and will take place in various locations throughout Bed-Stuy.

The 2018 STooPS Art Crawl will showcase interactive presentations by dynamic artists, including painting with mother and son duo, Mut’Sun; quilt-making and story sharing with Jacqueline Johnson; celebrations of self-love, care, and community with performance artist, Cat Del Buono & Tanya Jennings, photographer Kay Hickman, and poet Keisha-Gaye Anderson; memory making in the digital age with Jaime SunWoo, Ash Goh, and Zain Alam, community sculptures of mixed media by Sal Muñoz and Christine Stoddard; and more.

2018 STooPS Artists

And for young artists, there will be a Kiddie Korner featuring activities such as storytime, mural painting, and puppet-making. The day will culminate in a community gathering featuring performances by STooPS organizers Kendra J. Ross, Ish, and Danielle Vasquez.

STooPS Artists offer more than entertainment, they are stakeholders in an ever-growing network of creatives and community members. We would not be able to produce over five years of community events without your support, and we look forward to fostering this relationship for years to come.

About STooPS

Bed-Stuy grown and artist-instigated, STooPS incubates art at home by sharing resources and re-imagining spaces for public engagement. Since 2013, our annual STooPS Art Crawl has paired homeowners with artists to host performances and art showcases on their stoops, storefronts, yards or sidewalks. To encourage family-wide participation, we also produce a Kiddie Korner featuring various children's art activities.

Hosting nearly 1000 attendees, STooPS has been an undeniable success, helping to promote social interaction with more than 200 artists, residents, and business owners in Bed-Stuy. STooPS activities have also captured the attention of a wide-reaching audience, garnering features in such media as DNAInfo, the BK Reader, Brokelyn, A.R.T.S.Y. Magazine, and News12 Brooklyn.

The STooPS team is ecstatic about engaging the Bed-Stuy community for yet another year. It is just one way to engage, support, and develop Bed-Stuy, and as we expand, the entire Brooklyn community grows stronger.
