Dear Friend—

Since the Democratic primary, I have spent a lot of time thinking about how we can work together to make sure that education is not a roadblock to employment for young people across the District.  While our schools have certainly seen improvement in many areas, a lot of our students are still not feeling this progress in the classroom—especially in Ward 5.

During a time where more than 70% of Ward 5 students are not proficient in reading and math, we need a competent and qualified advocate on the State Board of Education, someone like Zachary Parker. He will make sure that Ward 5 students have a voice at the policy table. As a former 7th grade math teacher, Zach knows the classroom inside-out, and he has the experience to help navigate our schools toward better performance.

Let me be clear, I do not take this decision to support Zach lightly. If we are going to improve education in this city, we must work together. I am committed to helping Zach spread his idea of building a school system that meets students at their places of need—block-by-block.

How you vote in the general election on November 6, 2018, will be real for our children every single day for the next four years. My hope is that you will join me in supporting Zachary Parker, a true education advocate, for Ward 5 Representative on the DC State Board of Education.

Respectfully,

Marcus Goodwin
