Directors' Forum News & Updates

Two Weeks Left to Register for the Forum!

October 5th is the last day to register for the 2018 Directors’ Forum “Innovate, Integrate, Co-operate!” conference at the Courtyard by Marriott, Downtown Toronto! This year’s programming is packed with a variety of sessions to get board directors thinking about ways to be more innovative and integrating new ideas and concepts into their strategic plans – particularly when it comes to organizational culture, as well as creating a more “co-operative culture” within their organizations. Check out the newly released official Event Program, or learn more about all the amazing sessions and speakers. For more details or to register, click the blue button below!
REGISTER HERE BEFORE THE DEADLINE!

Group Rate Deadline for Accommodations Extended

The Marriott has graciously extended the special group rate of $189 + HST to September 30, to ensure that our delegates who have not yet registered or booked their accommodations receive the reduced rate. After this date, any guestrooms not reserved under this block will be released back to the hotel for general sale, and will be based on available space and the prevailing rate at that time. So if you are thinking of attending, don’t wait to book your room! Click for details.

Don’t Forget to Purchase a Ticket for the Banquet Dinner!

This year’s Banquet Dinner & Fundraiser on Friday, October 12 being hosted by the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF) is sure to please! The evening includes live entertainment by celebrity TV Host and founder of the Funny Money Program, James Cunningham, a variety of ethnic food stations and a wine pairing, as well as a live auction with several exciting packages for delegates to bid on.

PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST REGISTER SEPARATELY FOR THIS EVENT USING THE CDF ONLINE PORTAL. DF delegates are NOT automatically registered for the Banquet, as these are two separate events. All ticket purchases for the Banquet supports the CDF’s mission to alleviate poverty through the development of sustainable, co-operative communities across the world. You can access the Banquet Registration site directly by clicking the CDF logo above.

You do not have to be a delegate of the DF conference to attend the event, but tickets must be purchased in advance. Learn more!

CUDA Survey Reminder

As part of the CUDA half-day session “Culture…A Game Changer,“ taking place on Saturday, October 13, all registered delegates of the Forum received an email and were asked to participate in a Barrett Values Survey. The data will help the presenter of the all morning session design an experience that is most relevant to our directors. If you have not already done so, please complete the survey before it closes at 6pm EST on Friday, September 28th. The survey takes 10 to 15 minutes and must be completed in one sitting. All responses are anonymous and data will be presented in summary form. Contact us if you are planning on attending but did not receive the link.

Session Highlights

Here are the final two synopses of the sessions taking place at this year’s Forum…

Open Forum Discussion with Kim Andres
Friday, October 12 from 3:45 – 4:30PM

This year's Open Forum discussion will explore the notion of "diversity." For many Directors, "diversity" simply means gender, age or geography. Delegates will expand on this definition to include gaining access to the resources that will support credit unions agenda's going forward. In other words, if you don't have what you need on your board today, you will need to diversify to gain access to it.

The concept of "succession" will also be introduced by Kim, from the perspective of "how can we succeed" the current Directors who are retiring? Does succession mean "replace" or does it mean identifying the next generation of talent (i.e., skills and resources) that will leverage where we are now and allow us to progress? This session is also an opportunity to do some self-reflection and ask ourselves why it is difficult to recruit directors.

Highlights & Takeaways with Alisdair Smith
Saturday, October 13 from 12:00 – 12:30PM

In his own wonderful style and delivery, Alisdair will end this year’s Forum by sharing the insights gathered from all of the conference sessions, speakers and discussions, and bundle them into a cohesive package meant to both challenge and stimulate thought and future action from the audience. This is the best way to leave a conference – feeling invigorated and excited about the future of the system – and how you can effect change within it!
