Sometimes we have a hard time naming what we are good at. It seems obvious to others. But for some reason, we have a hard time valuing the gifts that have been given to us.
Perhaps it is because we live in a culture of "more". And thus, we think we are always lacking. We see the talents of others and imagine we need to be a little more like them (even as others might do the same when looking at us).
Our own talents seem so…lame. Boring, inadequate, simple. What is closest to us becomes easy, familiar, and monotonous. And we spend days (weeks, years) trying to get what we aren’t rather than making the most of who we are.
Each of us has gifts. Physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. They have been endowed to us by our Creator. It is tempting to imagine our gifts as somehow lesser than the gifts of others. But there are no wasted gifts in God’s design. The only wasted gift is the un-utilized one.
We have been equipped for every day. Each opportunity is uniquely suited with the person God has made us to be so that we might participate in His kingdom. We cannot be someone else. We cannot trade our gifts. But we can make the choice to adopt a true perspective surrounding our capacity and responsibility.
