What's On

We are working with Bringing our Communities Together to round off the summer with a fabulous community day for the whole family!

It’s Your Local Market will be promoting sustainable living with a host of local market traders. There will also be live music, arts and making workshops, and delicious food and drink.

With it being harvest time, Clarkshaws brewery are hoping to serve up their special green hop beer made from the first hop pick of the year, and you can find out about Ruskin Park's own wheat growing project.

Please like and share the event on Facebook - as this is a new event we need to spread the word.

Farewell to the Summer

Music at the Bandstand

A languid September Sunday afternoon with music from the Crooks and the Cambria choir was a fitting finish to our programme. Many thanks to all the performers and helpers.

We welcome your feedback on the concerts, which are free and support local volunteer bands. Email info@friendsofruskinpark.org.uk
Local children enjoy the Trapeze School

The TLCC Trapeze School marked the end of their time in the park with an end of summer show, pictured.

The Friends were also pleased to support a group from Loughborough Community Centre to attend a trapeze session during the school holidays. The children participated in an exhilarating experience, helping them develop trust and increase their confidence.
South London Cares group learn about plant folklore

We welcomed a group of older and younger people from South London Cares in August. They enjoyed a guided walk on plant folklore from Natural History Museum botanist Roy Vickery, learning about the forgotten uses of wild plants, followed by tea and a slice of cake at the nearby Ortus café.
Litter update

Unfortunately the fantastic weather led to litter problems. While more bins and collections were provided later in the summer, we are grateful to the park's volunteer litter-pickers who worked hard to stem the flow throughout the summer. This issue is high on our agenda and we will work with Lambeth Council to be better prepared for next year. We need additional bins and collections, more recycling facilities, and public education.

News

Save the date: Friends of Ruskin Park AGM, Tuesday 20th November

Our Annual General Meeting will again take place upstairs at the Cambria. The evening gathering is an opportunity to meet other members and volunteers, and shape our work for the year ahead. More details to follow.

Tennis Courts refurbishment update

As reported last month, the tennis courts are due to be fully refurbished soon. However, work did not start in early September as planned. We are seeking an update from Lambeth Council on this delay.
