Supporting children and families where ASD and ADHD is suspected
Last year we talked to families who had experience of the process of assessment for a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and to professionals involved in the process or who provide support to families of children with ASD and ADHD.
We found that the process of seeking a diagnosis of, and help for, ASD and ADHD often takes so long and is so fragmented that children and their families are struggling.
Our Enter and View visits are always an interesting way of finding out about people's experiences of their health and care services. Since March, we've visited four care home to find out what residents and staff think of the care they provide, with a particular focus on the quality of nutrition, hydration and activities in the homes. Stroke Services in Northamptonshire
When someone has a stroke it is important they receive fast emergency treatment from expert staff in specialist facilities in order to get the best possible health outcome. That is why – for many years now – all Northamptonshire patients suspected of having a stroke are taken to Northampton General Hospital for their emergency treatment. NGH has a highly rated hyper acute stroke unit which provides expert care to stroke patients in the first few hours after developing stroke symptoms.
In order to ensure all patients living in Northamptonshire receive the same level of care from a hyper acute and acute stroke unit, from the end of August 2018 all stroke patients will receive care at NGH until they are ready to return home. At the same time there will be investment in community stroke services to support all patients when they are ready to go home. Find out more
Chance to find out more about Good Neighbours Scheme
People are invited to discover the benefits of a project which is helping to reduce social isolation and loneliness in local villages.
Good Neighbour Schemes use voluntary effort from local people to provide help and support for anyone in their village who might need assistance with low level tasks such as lifts to day centres, GP surgery or other appointments, help with shopping or gardening, filling in forms and using computers or even dog walking. They have been proven to be an effective means to help alleviate loneliness and social isolation in rural communities especially among older people, as well as helping to strengthen community ties.
Northamptonshire ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) has been working with Daventry District Council to develop Good Neighbours Schemes in the district. Northamptonshire ACRE is keen to see more schemes set up across the county and is encouraging people who are interested in bringing the scheme to their community to find out more at a free event at Moulton Community Centre on Monday 1 October 2018, from 10am to 4pm.
Places are free but must be booked in advance by visiting https://www.northantsacre.org.uk/Good%20Neighbours
