CLIMATE ADAPTATION CALL | 'KNOWLEDGE TO ACTION' LAB

GDN is organizing a 'Knowledge to Action' Lab in New Delhi, India on 20-21 November 2018. Researchers and research organizations working on adaptation in the Hindukush Himalayan subregion and downstream South and Southeast Asian countries are invited to express their interest for participation. The workshop is being organized in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) IndiaInternational Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)Oxfam, the United Nations Environment, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)Download concept note. DEVELOPMENT STUDIES AND KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION

GDN presented a paper, ‘Development Studies and Knowledge Production – Which Way? In Search of a Transdisciplinary and Transformative (Research) Agenda on Equality,’ at the World Social Science Forum 2018 to be held from 25-28 September in Fukuoka, Japan in a panel organized by European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes. The presentation focused on the practical challenges of including policy stakeholders in the definition of research projects, the role of research donors, and the importance of mediators and negotiators. THE CHALLENGES OF ENERGY TRANSITION

GDN grantee the Regional Social Sciences Summer University, Vietnam, has come out with a report on The Challenges of Energy Transition in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, from their 2016 (tenth overall) edition. The report focuses on energy transition challenges in economic, human and social science settings. This report is part of GDN's program Building Research Capacities in Least Developed Countries.
GLOBALDEV | DO RISING TEMPERATURES IMPACT MIGRATION?

In this blog article, read about the possible effect rising temperatures can have on migration and employment in rural Mexico. The extreme heat is causing local workers to migrate to the United States or to urban areas Mexico in search of favorable working conditions. "Extreme temperatures will affect local earning opportunities negatively. Poor wage-laborer households will be most vulnerable to these shocks, as their local employment opportunities are most sensitive to extreme heat."
GDN BOARD MEMBER JOINS ZIMBABWEAN CABINET

GDN Board Member Mthuli Ncube was appointed Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Zimbabwe on 10 September 2018. He will be joining the Cabinet of the newly elected government to lead its economic reforms. Given his new responsibilities, he will be stepping down from his role at GDN. We thank him for his unwavering support to GDN during his board mandate and wish him good luck in helping to rebuild the country. Read more about him.
