M/V Spar Gemini
7.46 meter long rudder stock broke and a new rudder stock had to be manufactured ASAP.
When the bulk carrier Spar Gemini this summer suffered an unfortunate rudder failure while in service in the Pacific off Baja California Peninsula it was taken to Manzanillo Mexico for repair.

The rudder stock was broken and unrepairable and MarineShaft received the order for manufacturing of one new rudder stock Ø428.5x7460mm with two shrunk on stainless-steel sleeves. The upper cone was machined and fitted with the steering gear rotor. For this job we also manufactured a new rudder pintle Ø560 x 1939 mm and stainless-steel sleeves for the pintle. Thanks to our large stock of class approved material we were able to manufacture these parts within 10 working days.

The fitting and machining of the rudder cones took place in Mexico and we packed and shipped both rudder stock and pintle from Hirtshals, Denmark to Manzanillo, Mexico followed by MarineShaft service engineers to carry out the final machining on-site
.
Rudder stock and pintle were delivered with oversize on cones and on-site we machined the upper and lower rudder cone to fit the rudder stock and pintle. The rudder horn gudgeons were machined and new composite bushes installed.

We thank the whole team around M/V Spar Gemini for a good co-operation and were happy to assist on putting M/V Spar Gemini back in Sea as fast as possible.
M/V Hilda Knutsen
Scratches on the coupling end of a propeller shaft belonging to the shuttle tanker M/V Hilda Knutsen were repaired using microwelding. Our portable equipment enables us to carry out this welding in-situ. A fast repair method that is fully approved by the classification societies.
We hope you will take a minute to watch our new movie about microwelding.
Back from SMM
As always, this fair is very well visited including the Danish Pavilion, among here MarineShaft. To our customers, suppliers and all old and new relationships that came by our stand at SMM we want to say thank you.  We had a busy week at SMM and were happy to experience optimism all-around.
