Government Consultation - Energy Performance Certificates for Buildings

Time is running out for members who wish to contribute to the Government's consultation on Energy Performance Certificates for Buildings.

We would urge any members with good or bad experiences of EPC's to contribute to the consultation process online at https://beisgovuk.citizenspace.com/home-local-energy/epc-call-for-evidence/

The deadline for submissions is 19th October 2018

If you have not participated in a government consultation before, the process is fairly easy, and can all be done online. The forms ask lots of questions, but you only need to answer the ones where you have something to say, you don't need to comment on everything, so it needn't take too much time. Case studies are extremely useful to BEIS and these can be submitted by email if you already have ones that you feel are relevant.

If you would rather share your experiences with us, we will collate information from members and feed it back to BEIS on your behalf.

We encourage you to get involved.

EEA MEMBER COLLABORATION OPPORTUNITY

With summertime temperatures on the rise, overheating in modern buildings is becoming of increasing concern, as many discovered following this summer’s high temperatures. With drives to improve wintertime thermal efficiency in buildings, the risk of summertime overheating is inherently increased if not properly managed. At present, there are no procedures integrated into the building regulations to help assess and avoid the risk of overheating, leaving the task of ensuring suitable internal environments to the discretion and competence of the client and design team.

All too often, overheating risks are not adequately managed, resulting in buildings which incur excessive indoor temperatures through substantial portions of the year. This can lead to poor levels of health and productivity from building occupants, or expensive remedial measures, often incurring long term running costs. This need not be the case. Through the use of detailed dynamic thermal models, Greenlite Energy Assessors can help members manage these overheating risks, and help provide energy efficient, thermally comfortable and healthy buildings for today and the future. For further details, see www.GreenliteEA.co.uk.
