KAFSC STANDS BY SURVIVORS
Today, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford stood before the Senate Judiciary Committee to testify that she was sexually assaulted by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as a young high school student. Through our agency's support for victims and survivors, we recognize that Dr. Blasey Ford's testimony marks a significant display of courage and resilience. For a high percentage of our clients, it is their first time disclosing their experience with sexual abuse after years of maneuvering through their trauma alone. Dr. Blasey Ford's voice, strong and certain, was and will continue to be heard across the country.

KAFSC stands by survivors and we will continue to create space for the voices of survivors to be valued and respected.
September 2018:

A Highlight of KAFSC's Community Impact
One Day Restaurant
In Support of Rainbow House Emergency Shelter
"Recently, we were contacted by a client from a state outside of the Tri-State area, as they didn't have access to a Korean shelter. This client didn't know where to turn to for help in regards to her domestic violence case. She called us on a nearly daily basis and we were able to provide her with the appropriate attention and care. Our shelter continues to provide paths for our clients to be independent, both emotionally and financially, and we're excited that information regarding the work our shelter does is spreading beyond the Tri-State area. The shelter acts a refuge for those who've lost stability and resources for their living."

-Sue Kim, Case Manager & Social Worker at Rainbow House Shelter
On Friday, September 14th, around 250 guests gathered at Miss Korea (Manhattan), Hahm Ji Bach (Flushing), and Byungchun Soondae (Flushing) to participate in KAFSC's One Day Restaurant. Together, we raised another round of funds for our Rainbow House Emergency Shelter, the only shelter of its kind within the Korean community.

Rainbow House Emergency Shelter is a vital, healing bridge between immediate crisis and long-term safety, connecting individuals with important services, such as bilingual counseling, and providing them with temporary housing, transportation, and other public benefits. In 2017, Rainbow House Shelter provided emergency housing for 23 women and children, reaching over 1,000 bed nights with a 94% satisfaction rate in the shelter's services.
