September 2018

Welcome back! How was your summer?
Autumn is here -- -- well, not in Florida.  In September, we’re actually smack dab in our most dangerous month of hurricane season.
But Mike and I are in a stilt-house/studio fortress now because we installed 27 high impact windows and doors which can withstand 170 mph winds.
During the month of July, I endured a daily dose of 4 to 5 very capable and hard-working men in my space.
We have a three story stilt house, so the workmen had to be on scaffolding to reach the windows.
Here's the guys on the second floor replacing all the windows and doors.
Three men in our bedroom!
They were all super nice and did a great job, but I'm glad it's over.
New Transitions Series
I’m excited as I continue working on a new series of paintings which I call the Transitions series.  So far, there are only 4 of them, and 2 sold during my one-person exhibition at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, Florida in June.
Here are all four together, with a sneak-peak at the start of the next 45” x 60.”

Why do I call them Transitions?
For years, I have painted two series, one called Wetlands – which are very grounded on the earth - and Cosmic – which are not earth-bound at all,
so the Transitions are an intriguing “in-between” space.
There’s also an implied reference to our current, unsettling political times of transition, which prompt us to ask ourselves, “Where will it lead?”
It is dark and stormy? Is it hopeful? Is it somewhere in between?
Time-Lapse Video.
My brilliant assistant Evelyn Pazmino and I made this 1 minute time-lapse video of my painting “Winds of Change,” oil and encaustic (hot wax) on panel, 45” x 60,” 2017.
Watch as it changes radically from start to finish.
(Thanks to my photographer George Blanchette for the original 2.5 minute video.)
In conclusion, many thanks, as always, for your support.
It means the world to me.
Stay tuned for updates on the new Transitions series.
