Dear Friends and Supporters,

Hello from Autumn China! My name is Zoey Zhou, I am working for the World Future Council's Regenerative Cities Programme. It is my great honor to introduce you to this edition.

China is an emerging economy with a growing urban population in 15 megacities, with over 10 million inhabitants each. With such rapid urbanisation, regenerative city development is indispensable!

Because of the linear and extensive development in the past years, we have already compromised the ability of future generations to meet the needs of their own development. But we can’t just do less damage to the environment; we have to REPAIR the damage – that’s the basic idea of Regenerative Cities.

Just recently, we launched the Smart Sustainable Pioneering Models project on the Fourth China Smart City International Expo. We feel obligated and excited to open these lively discussions on China’s urbanisation! By launching this project, we review the most outstanding urban development experiences, select the most advanced development models and share it to cities around the globe. We believe the power of best examples, and that concrete cases are as important as theoretical guidelines.

So much about our work in China. More on our international work in this newsletter edition!

Best wishes, Zoey Zhou

Programme and Communications Manager, Regenerative Cities Programme
