Learning around Avonmore this week

This week in the Nursery we have been getting to know each other a little better and have enjoyed talking about our families and where we live. The Nursery children have been keen to explore the construction materials in order to build their own houses.

This week Reception had an exciting week focusing on the story Elmer by David McKee. The children discussed what makes Elmer unique, before sharing with the class why they are unique or special. This week the children have also been making their own clay portraits.

We have all been amazing artists this week in Year 1. We learned how to draw and colour our self portraits. We used a mirror to carefully look at each feature on our faces. Miss Cole was very impressed with the results!

Year 2 have been working so hard on their reasoning skills in maths this week, comparing numbers within 100 and explaining how they know using their place value knowledge. They also learnt all about Jackson Pollock in art and created some abstract art of their own!

Year 3 have been refining their drawing skills in art this week. They were tasked with drawing a portrait of their partner using only pencils and blue and red colouring pencils. Here are the amazing results!

Year 4 had such an exciting morning working with the Holland Park Opera to create some pieces of music about friendship, difference and happiness. We all had so much fun learning Makaton to accompany our lyrics and music, so that everyone could take part!

This week in Year 5 we continued our science work on our new topic - the Solar System. The children learnt about the different planets and their orbits around the sun, and created lovely posters to help us learn the order!

In science this week Year 6 researched the life cycle of a frog. Then, using their reasoning skills they divided the life cycle into six separate phases, creating very clear posters summarising their research.

AVONMORE PTA
We are currently looking for parents to join our PTA! The PTA is the Parents and Teachers Association, which organizes both social and fundraising events at Avonmore. The PTA will meet once every half term, so it will not take up much of your time, and will be helping us run certain school events throughout the year, such as our Christmas Disco and Summer Fair. If you would like to join this friendly team and make a real difference to Avonmore, then please attend the first PTA meeting of the year. This short meeting will be held on Tuesday 25th September at 9am. Please spread the word as it would be great to have as many parents as possible join the PTA this year! Mr Brown will be leading the meetings so please speak to him if you have any questions or simply come along on the 25th September!
