Hurricane Florence Special  |   September 19th, 2018

Hurricane Florence Hit Us Hard!

We are all safe and in good spirits, but we had had some damage to our new facility, ADDIE's Way. We know our Puppies would love to get back to their new home as soon as possible, but we need a little help! We are looking for volunteers to help with clean up and will be fundraising to raise money for the much needed repairs.

CINDER weathered the storm, but her 6 week "pupdate" could use a little sunshine!

If you would like to make a  donation to our Hurricane Relief Campaign, please click here. To sign up to volunteer for property clean up,  please contact Sam Cleary at sam.cleary@paws4people.org.  We know it would mean the world to some pretty special Puppies and to the rest of the paws4people family as well!

ADDIE's Way Survives the Storm

Staff members who remained on call at the property were met by this large tree that had fallen blocking the entrance.

When it rains, it pours! Although waiting for the storm seemed like an eternity, when Florence finally arrived, ADDIE's Way suffered a beating from the hours of relentless winds, torrential downpours, and of course flooding. While we are saddened by the damage and the setbacks, we are happy to report all are alive and well.

Flooding early on in the future site for our Puppy Caregiver Dorms and ADDIE's Way-PDC.

As if the outside devastation weren't enough. Several building at ADDIE's Way lost shingles and siding as well. Regardless of our efforts in advance, there was no way for us to prevent water for leaking in damaging ceilings, walls, and floors in its wake.

Water poured in through the exposed roof causing interior damage to several buildings.

Our property suffered, but our spirit is not lost. We will be scheduling property clean up days to get things back on track. If you are interested in helping, please contact Sam Cleary at sam.cleary@paws4people.org

Evacuees

FRANKIE enjoyed her time in her temporary home this past week. Her intern even had a tunnel to play in for stimulation time!

Our ADDIE's Way Interns and Volunteers helped keep our minds at ease by taking the Puppies who were old enough to higher ground. We requested daily photos to show the Pups were keeping up with their training, even though their schedules were unusual.

EASLEY had a lot of distractions, but stayed as good as gold even when restraint training had an unexpected visitor!

UNCW SDTP

While many joked about hurricane parties and celebrated a few days off school, our UNCW SDTP Students really stepped up during the storm. They jumped right in offering to take Dogs, they met only a few weeks before, to safer places to wait out the storm. We are so proud of the responsibility these young people took on without even thinking twice. You truly are in a class all your own!

Special Thanks!

A very special thank you to First Responders, FEMA, the Red Cross, and Coast Guard for helping the residents of Wilmington and the surrounding areas during their time of need. You rock!
