The Revd. John  Bremner will be inducted as Ecumenical and Interfaith Officer for the United Reformed Church National Synod of Scotland on Thursday 18th October at 7.30pm at Grahamston United Church, Bute Street, Falkirk. FK2 7DH. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

John is no stranger to the Synod, currently serving as the minister for Avonbridge URC and Bathgate URC. He will take up his new role on 1st October and brings a wealth of experience to his appointment having served much of his ministry in ecumenical and/or interfaith contexts.  John’s first pastorate was in the South West Manchester Group (Baptist/URC); then he served the Waldensian Church in Italy before returning to England to South Croydon, where he was involved in several Interfaith activities. John’s ministry in Scotland has included four years as Convenor of the Synod’s Ecumenical and World Church Committee.

You are warmly invited to the service of induction to support John as he begins this new ministry. To assist with catering it would be helpful if you could let Lindsey Sanderson know numbers attending from your congregation by Monday 15th October. Lindsey can be contacted on 07895 139615 or minister.ekhamiltonurc@gmail.com
To celebrate Scottish Interfaith Week 2018 which is taking place from 11th – 18th November, Interfaith Scotland is looking for budding artists to take part in our ‘Connecting Generations’ competition. There is a top prize of £50 and winning entries will have their work displayed at the launch of Scottish Interfaith Week taking place at the Town House, Aberdeen on 12th November 2018. Entries are open to individuals and groups of all ages. You do not need to be part of a faith group to enter this competition.  The deadline for entries is Monday 22nd October.

Scottish Interfaith Week provides an opportunity to plan and attend events that bring local people from different faiths and beliefs together all over Scotland. We chose the theme ‘Connecting Generations’ as the Scottish Government has declared 2018 to be the Year of Young People. One of the main aims of the year is to develop better understanding, co-operation and respect between generations. Faith communities, community groups and organisations have an important role to play in providing opportunities for people of different generations to dialogue and engage in activities together.

CHALLENGE POVERTY WEEK 2018
Challenge Poverty Week will run this year from 1 to 7 of October and is coordinated annually by the Poverty Alliance. Similarly to last year, the Poverty Alliance is looking to get organisations, faith groups and individuals involved to carry out activities to highlight the reality of poverty while discussing the solutions to it.

The Poverty Alliance is also keen to highlight ongoing work that’s being done around Scotland to solve poverty. Challenge Poverty Week is a great opportunity to get people talking about the reality of poverty in Scotland, as well as celebrating the really positive work that we know is being carried out in communities to tackle poverty in Scotland.
The key messages for this year’s Challenge Poverty Week are:
Challenge Poverty in Scotland?  Aye, we can!
  • Poverty exists in Scotland and affects us all
  • Poverty can be solved by boosting incomes and reducing costs
  • Solving poverty is about ensuring we can all participate in society
We believe that faith groups can have a big role to play with this year’s Challenge Poverty Week. To see some examples of other Challenge Poverty Week activities from last year, please click here.
