On Tuesday, Pratt Center for Community Development released Flawed Findings: How NYC’s Approach to Measuring Displacement Risk Fails Communities, an in-depth look at the inadequate way the City of New York calculates residential displacement.
Despite a growing recognition that displacement pressure exacerbates the city’s already segregated residential landscape, the City has yet to conduct a comprehensive, citywide displacement risk analysis. Building on research conducted by Renae Widdison, the report connects the failings of the existing neighborhood risk analysis to opportunities to address the root causes of displacement – such as creating a comprehensive planning framework through the 2019 Charter Revision.
