Call for Stall Holders for Christmas Craft Fair, on 6 December

We’re taking bookings for those who want to have a stall at our Christmas Craft Fair, taking place at our premises in North Belfast on Thursday, 6 December 2018, 2-6pm.  Last year we had a fantastic event with lots of traffic flow.  This is a great way for females aged 16 and over to make some money by selling their hand-crafted products.  This can be a huge confidence boost too!  Those booking a stall before the end of September can book for only £25 (normal price £30).  For further information, please contact Chloe McVey at WOMEN’STEC on 02890 749 810 or email chloe.mcvey@womenstec.org

Outreach Courses for Young Women aged 16-24

Do you work with young people aged 16-24 who are not in education or employment?  We have an exciting range of courses we can offer you FREE, and they can take place at your own premises.  Our #PASS project is a great programme for young women looking for something a bit different and hands-on!  We can tailor the programme to suit your group; courses can include DIY, glass etching, furniture painting, jewellery making, mosaics, digital skills, time management, and more.  We can offer accredited or non-accredited courses.  If you work with young mums, we can also offer free onsite crèche for 0-4 year olds.  To discuss this further, please contact Chloe McVey at WOMEN’STEC on 02890 749 810 or email chloe.mcvey@womenstec.org

Charity asks Larne, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey area residents to open up their home and help a vulnerable young person

Leading charity Action for Children are asking Newtownabbey, Larne and Carrickfergus area residents to open up their home and help a vulnerable young person.

The unique programme helps 16-21 year olds who are leaving foster care or residential care, or are at risk of homelessness.
Supported Lodgings providers need to have a spare room and funding is provided to cover rent and utility bills. Action for Children Northern Ireland offers regular advice and information, pre-placement visits and 24 hour on-call support.
Action for Children’s Family Support Practitioner Claire Larkin explained:
“We are really excited to be launching the Supported Lodgings service in these areas.

“Young people who use the Supported Lodgings Service may not have had the best start in life, so providing them with emotional support and helping them to prepare to live independently can be a very rewarding experience. All you need is a spare room and a little free time.

“We are appealing to local residents to ring staff at Supported Lodgings to learn more about this opportunity to reach out and help a young person in need.”

Supported Lodgings host Audrey Barr has been helping vulnerable young people in Northern Ireland for two years. She explained: “I have enjoyed every minute of being a host and I can honestly say it’s been a positive life changing experience.

“I wanted to reach out and help people who haven’t been as fortunate as some young people out there. I attended Action for Children’s Supported Lodgings information evening and the staff were so kind and helpful and from that moment I knew I wanted to be involved.

“Since then I’ve had some incredible and very special young people staying with me and to see them start to blossom and grow in confidence in a stable, homely environment is a huge reward for me.

“I can honestly recommend the opportunity to anyone out there with a spare room.”

The service is commissioned by the Western and Northern Health and Social Care Trusts and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s Supporting People team.

To find out more about becoming a supported lodgings provider or to request an information pack please contact Claire Larkin on 028 94467345 or 07921492138.
