In our whole school assembly this week, we talked about the importance of a positive attitude at school and indeed in life.
Many of our children display this every day from the moment they say goodbye to their parents and greet those of us that assist with "Drop off" every morning. We all agree that learning is so much easier with a positive attitude; and it is such a pleasure to spend time with our friends and peers when those around us also exhibit a positive attitude. Attitude is something that can make a big difference. It is the manner we conduct ourselves, the way we hold ourselves and the way we approach our lives on a daily basis. We can all learn from each other and well done to all children who arrive every day with an excellent attitude, ready to learn.
Remember it's "Jeans for Genes" day tomorrow for those who want to participate.
Enjoy the weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs Kathryn Korcz

We welcome two new members of staff this term, Madame Balestra, our new spanish teacher and Mr Garrett, our class music teacher. Mr Garrett will be with us up until Christmas.
This term our school has introduced a new tool to help our children become fitter (both mentally and physically), healthier, more sociable and EVEN raise their attainment and focus in the classroom! What is this wonder tool? Nothing more than a short period of sustained exercise walking, jogging and running. The Daily Mile Challenge has been created Nationally to help the Nations' children to become fitter and improve their general health and well-being. Each class teacher will choose appropriate times during the school day to take their class on a run / jog / walk around the school site for a period of 15 minutes. No special equipment or type of weather is needed and is inclusive of all. The Science says doing the challenge the childrenwill
become better engaged with the outdoors, more connected to nature and the seasons;
more resilient and self confident;
become invigorated, more focused and ready to learn resulting in raised attainment;
may benefit from improved body composition - bone density, muscle strength and cardiovascular health;
buildimprovedrelationships, often helping and encouraging theirpeers
they should bring the benefits home - often eating and sleeping better and encouraging their families to be active together.
We will update you on the progress of everyone and how they are enjoying the challenge of A Mile a Day in future newsletters.
Dr Tim Williams, Choir Master at St Wulfram's leads assembly
On Monday morning Dr Tim Williams gave a wonderful presentation about the opportunity of being a chorister at St Wulfram’s Church, Grantham. He spent time explaining the role of a chorister and hopefully inspired some of the pupils to think about joining the choir. Dr Williams has sent a letter home with further details on but if you have any questions about your child becoming a chorister please do not hesitate to contact me.
It was an exceptionally windy afternoon as we welcomed Ayscoughfee Hall for the first netball match of the school year. Passing, shooting and just standing up at times was incredibly difficult but this didn’t deter either team.
As the match progressed both teams grew in confidence and the passing became more accurate despite the wind. The match finished 2-0 in our favour which was a great result.
Superb effort everyone involved.

U11 Stamford Hockey Tournament
The U11 girls were up against some stiff competition on Wednesday 19th September, when they played in the “A” league Stamford Endowed Schools festival of hockey in their first game/s of this season.
I was so proud of their grit and performance. Bearing in mind that this is only the second season that hockey has been taught in the curriculum here, the results were pretty outstanding!
Brooke v Grantham: 1-0
Laxton v Grantham 0-0
Stoneygate v Grantham 2-0
Ranby v Grantham 1-0
Copthill v Grantham 3-0
Stamford v Grantham 0-0
The girls showed true resilience and their performance improved with every subsequent game.
The girls rapidly adapted to feedback. The Defence started putting the Attack under pressure, instead of being pushed back towards the opposition’s goal.
With continued training and match play, I am confident that the girls will learn to pass the ball more quickly and read the game better. We can do this by supporting each other and holding our space/positions on the pitch. This is a crucial first step. Also, by anticipating the game play, we can learn to place ourselves in a suitable attacking or defending position, to receive the ball from our team mates, who might be tackling the opposition. This is far more effective than piling in on the action, whereby feet are hit and passing opportunities become slim.
A special well done to Georgina M in goal! She successfully defended and saved a lot of goals from being scored. This was her first time as goal keeper in a match too. Be proud of your performance today.
Well done girls. Keep listening and striving to improve. Also, if you are interested and have the time, join a local hockey club. It’s an excellent way to compound your skills and up your game play.

U9 Tag Rugby v Ayscoughfee Hall
Grantham Under 9 Tag Rugby team started the season against Ayscoughfee Hall on what was a very windy afternoon. The conditions made it extremely difficult to play flowing, expansive rugby and both sides lack of experience certainly showed early in the game. Grantham made the most of the visitors’ poor ball retention winning the first quarter comfortably. After a pep talk by their coach the visitors came out strongly in the next quarter and it took a good fight back from the Grantham side to eventually win the quarter. A much better third quarter saw both sides play more flowing rugby with some excellent passing skills on display from both sides and it was some individual brilliance which secured Grantham the quarter. The last quarter was another close run affair and in the end Grantham managed to complete a white wash winning all four quarters. In all a good afternoon in which were interesting rugby conditions. Both sides will have learnt a lot from the game and will be able to take the experience forward.

Mr Giles's top tip …….. Practise difficult passages slowly and build the speed up gradually. The slower you practise it, the quicker you’ll learn it!!!
6th Graders with Mr. Christopher Southwick & Ms. Kinga Borcsiczky
Sixth graders had an exciting first day.They were getting familiar with new classmates, books, supplies, and their new classroom. Also, they already had their first lessons in their different subjects,meeting new teachers who have not taught them before. First day of school is an important day. It's a new beginning of a year long learning,,and an opportunity to setting new goals as an individual student or as a classroom community.

Visit to Children´s Museum
On August 28th PreK students had the opportunity to visit the “Museo de los Niños” in San José. The adventure began on the bus. They were very happy and excited just by riding such a big and colorful bus with their friends. At the museum, they enjoyed a healthy and delicious snack and right after this they got ready for the real fun. They explored and learned about dinosaurs, how to be a smart buyer at the supermarket, the relevance of recycling and how important all community helpers are in our lives. They had a great experience that remain in their memory for a long time.
