Sports

Bowling

Bowling is GSO's most popular sport.  This year, we have more bowlers than we have ever had which has resulted in maxing out the lanes we have been provided in two shifts at Gahanna Lanes.  For the first time in many years, we have been provided a quota from Special Olympics for the State competition that is many bowlers short of the number indicating that they are interested in going to the State Competition.  We have around 40 athletes that indicated their interest in going to State and we have been given a maximum of 28 spots.  So, cuts will need to be made.  As in other sports, cuts will be made first, based on attendance.  If that does not get us to the number we need, we will then need to cut based on some performance criteria.

If you signed up and are not sure you can make it now or were wavering on whether to go and you are willing to give up your athlete's spot, please let Tiffany and/or Eric know.

We are not at the point where we would need to do this at this time, but in the future, since we are maxed out as things stand at Gahanna Lanes, in the future, we may need to ask athletes to choose whether they want to bowl in the Spring or Fall, but not both.  Again, this is not something we need to do yet, but please understand that this is a possibility in 2019 depending on the numbers in the Spring.

If you need anything else in regard to bowing, reach out to Coach Tiffany at coachtiffany@gahannaspecialolympics.org

Swimming

If you are swimming this season, please be sure to attend as many practices as possible so that we can gather times for your athlete, especially if they plan to attend  the competitions.  We won't have many practices before times will be due for entries to Special Olympics Ohio.

For questions specific to swimming you may reach out to swimming@gahannaspecialolympics.org.
