Eclipsed by God's Glory

By Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

Do you remember the first time you saw an eclipse? Maybe you have recent vivid memories of the total solar eclipse that we experienced in 2017 (total, that is, depending on where you lived and/or traveled to witness the eclipse).

The apostle Paul tells of a time when a most glorious light shone directly on him and into his eyes blinding him. Acts 22:11 records: “And when I could not see for the glory of the light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.”

Reflecting on that text this week in my personal Bible study made me long to see that glory. You see, when we are blinded, we need help. We are much more willing to receive help as well. Paul was blinded by the glory of Jesus and now this man. who was the leader. is now being led by the hand. He was ready to listen.

Are you ready to listen, too?

FROM CRAIG CARR

New Children's Ministry Leader Named

Nitza Salazar
We are excited to share with you that Nitza Salazar has accepted the position of Children’s Ministries Coordinator. We welcome her to the conference team and are thankful for their team-ministry as her husband David continues to lead out with youth ministries. We’re blessed and thankful for their ministry.

Nitza looks forward to getting better acquainted with local children's ministry leaders, and also looks forward to introducing a traveling Vacation Bible School summer program. She is trained as a teacher, a popular seminar speaker for teens, and an energetic, bi-lingual leader.
Send Nitza a Note of Welcome!
FROM THE NORTH PACIFIC UNION CONFERENCE

A Call to Prayer for Annual Council

Many Northwest members are concerned over specific efforts by the General Conference administrative committee to encourage worldwide unity through measures of compliance. There are legitimate questions on differing sides of the discussion on what these plans are designed to accomplish. While some applaud efforts to achieve consistent compliance in global church practices, others worry that proposed efforts are in opposition to the church’s long-standing democratic governance structure.

In preparation for the Oct. 11–17, 2018, Annual Council meetings, when the General Conference executive committee will more formally act upon these issue, where does the North Pacific Union Conference (NPUC) stand? The short answer is: We stand in the need of prayer. It seems clear to us that decisions made in this year’s meetings may indeed affect the nature of our church and its mission for years to come.

Will you join us in praying for Annual Council?
