An organization only functions as well as its members make it function. Historically, only about 10% of the members of any volunteer organization do 90% of the work. It does not seem to matter whether, the organization is a garden club, civic organization, volunteer fire company, or a gun club.
The Club's serving officers met Wednesday night in a executive session to discuss the future of the Club, including ways to encourage member participation, both as elected officers and in general by attending Club meetings and Events were discussed.
We considered whether or not the Club should offer to cover the cost of an AGC range badge as an incentive for members to serve as Officers. We discounted this idea because the cost of 2019 Range Badges would bankrupt the Club without a dramatic increase in the cost of membership dues. At the present time dues are $35 per year as opposed to the average AGC club dues of $47 per year.
There are no free lunches, if we are to continue as a viable active Club, we must have active participation by our members. It is unrealistic to expect the same members to continue to volunteer their time year after year while other members benefit from their efforts while giving nothing back to the Club.
If you have never served as an officer or shooting discipline director, now would be a good time step up help a make a personal contribution of your time and expertise. See you at the October meeting!
