Message from the President

An organization only functions as well as its members make it function. Historically, only about 10% of the members of any volunteer organization do 90% of the work. It does not seem to matter whether, the organization is a garden club, civic organization, volunteer fire company, or a gun club.

The Club's serving officers met Wednesday night in a executive session to discuss the future of the Club, including ways to encourage member participation, both as elected officers and in general by attending Club meetings and Events were discussed.

We considered whether or not the Club should offer to cover the cost of an AGC range badge as an incentive for members to serve as Officers. We discounted this idea because the cost of 2019 Range Badges would bankrupt the Club without a dramatic increase in the cost of membership dues. At the present time dues are $35 per year as opposed to the average AGC club dues of $47 per year.

There are no free lunches, if we are to continue as a viable active Club, we must have active participation by our members. It is unrealistic to expect the same members to continue to volunteer their time year after year while other members benefit from their efforts while giving nothing back to the Club.

If you have never served as an officer or shooting discipline director, now would be a good time step up help a make a personal contribution of your time and expertise. See you at the October meeting!

Annual Meeting & Election of Officers - Oct. 19th
Candidates Needed!!

The Club's Annual Meeting and Election of Club Officers will be held on FRIDAY, October 19, 2018 at 7:30 PM in the Lower Range House at the AGC. All members are encouraged and have an obligation to attend this important meeting.

If you are interested in fulfilling the duties of any of these offices, please contact the Club Secretary immediately.
We still have elected officer positions to fill and candidates are needed. The Club is a corporation and without officers serving in these positions, the Club will cease to function.

Elections for the following officers and elective positions will be held:

President
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary
Parliamentarian
Director of High Power Activities
Director of Small Bore Activities
Director of Pistol Activities
Director of Trap Activities
Director of Juniors Activities
Member-at-Large

The Club is also in need of a Membership Chairman to recruit new members for the Club, and a Webmaster to maintain  our website.

AGC Proposes New Event Policy

The AGC is proposing a new policy regarding how events are held. The proposed policy will make it more time consuming to hold events due to the paperwork involved both for the Event Director and the participants.

This proposed policy will be voted on by the Trustees at the November AGC meeting. Please send your comments and suggestions to our Club Vice President.

It should be noted that if this policy is implemented as drafted, and Mt. Washington does not have Event Directors for the various activities, the Club may be forced to cancel formal Club events at the AGC Range.

Christmas Party and Dinner?

Last year the Club hosted  a Christmas Party and Buffet Dinner at the December meeting. We will discuss this at the October club meeting. If you are in favor of, opposed to, or have suggestions for a Christmas Party and Buffet Dinner then you need to attend the October club meeting and voice your views.

AGC Officers 2019-2020

There was no formal election of officers at the October meeting of the AGC Trustees. For whatever reason, there was a lack candidates running for office and thus no elected positions were contested. Per the AGC By-laws, when no elective offices is contested, the persons who have submitted their names are automatically "elected" by default. The AGC officers for 2019-2020 are:

President:    Tom D'Asto (incumbent) - Monumental
Vice President:    Katherine Harrison - 10th Cavalry
Executive Vice President:    Andrew Pelton (incumbent) - Baltimore Rifle
Secretary:    Gary Mendenhall (incumbent) - Glenmore
Treasurer:   Tim Paulin - Old Post

New Addition to the Club Website - Club Firearms

At the September club meeting, a member suggested that we add information on the Club firearms which are available for members to borrow.

The inventory of Club firearms is now listed on a dedicated page in the member's section of the Club website. Click here to view the firearms inventory page. Note: You must be a registered club website member in order to access the firearms inventory.

A link has been added to enable members to download and pre-fill the firearms checkout form.

Please note that you must be registered on the website as an active member in order to view the firearms inventory page. Click on the "Members Only" pulldown.

We listen to our members' suggestions!

Maryland Handgun Qualification License Class

One of the requirements of the Firearms Safety Act of 2013 is a Handgun Qualification License (HQL) as a prerequisite to purchase a handgun. Some of our members have not obtained an HQL due to the cost of training.

The Club will offer an HQL class free of charge to club members who would like to obtain a Handgun Qualification License. The State imposed fees for the actual HQL will still apply. We need six to ten members participating in order to schedule a class. This class will last no less than 4 hours (required by law) and will consist of classroom instruction and live fire. Eye and ear protection is recommended for the live fire segment. You do not need to own a handgun to take the class. Click here to download the training request form. For more information contact: Training@mtwashingtonrg.org

NOTE: This is a free class for current and new Club members. Future classes offered will require a donation to the Club.

Schedule of Events

Request the favor of a reply to: cpatk@aol.com so we can correlate volunteers to work tasks and food in advance of the chaos. Your cooperation here will definitely be appreciated.
