MEET OUR NEWEST CLIENTS
"Clean energy" takes many forms, with new thinking and new technologies consistently affording new opportunities for efficiency and environmental responsibility. Two of CEBIP's newest clients, RoadPower and SPIRA, approach this mindset from different directions – one from the outside, one from the inside – but strive for the same outcome: cleaner, smarter and more affordable power for all.
RoadPower is in the business of helping commercial energy consumers help themselves. Domestic energy use is dominated by commercial and industrial facilities (upwards of 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity per square foot of industrial space). Meanwhile, motor vehicles in motion, including vehicles in the service of commercial enterprise, produce copious amounts of kinetic energy. Enter RoadPower, a pioneer in the burgeoning science of “vehicle-to-grid” technology. Its plan: to generate clean, grid-grade electricity – and offset a significant portion of energy expenditures – by capturing and converting the kinetic energy generated by road traffic.
With commercial HVAC and “smart home” technologies surging toward the future, meet Special Passive Infrared Applications, a research project specializing in low-cost, low-power, high-accuracy occupancy sensors. Focused on user cost and privacy issues, and of course energy efficiency, SPIRA leverages a host of innovative technologies (from liquid-crystal tech with no moving parts to new signal-processing techniques to the “optical chopper,” a cutting-edge detector that senses both stationary and moving occupants) to create highly accurate readings designed to optimize heating, cooling and ventilation systems – slashing energy usage and significantly reducing costs.
