Sept 2018 Braking News
from the Rockland Bicycling Club

Here are Five Things to Know this month about riding in and around Rockland County.
  1. At the Sept 26 General Meeting, hear new findings about making bicycling safer in Nyack, Orangetown, and Rockland. Two recent studies, the Orangetown Bike Study and the Greater Nyack Bike Walk Master Plan researched what we do today and offered recommendations on how we can do it better in the future. RBC Board Member and Nyack Bike/Walk committee chairman Dave Zornow will share what was learned and where we go from here. 7p, New City Library, 220 N Main St, New City, NY

  2. Rock Around Rockland Club Ride, September 23, at 8a. Choose from three routes (40, 63 and 100 miles) entirely within Rockland County. Both the 100 and 63 mile routes include Harriman Park for some of the best cycling around. GPS routes and cue sheets will be available. Ride starts and ends at David's Bagels, 64 N. Main St., New City. We recommend participants buddy-up for this self-paced, unsupported ride. Deli, water, and bathroom stops will be noted in advance. Emergency contact numbers will be provided. Registration is required. For insurance reasons, this ride is only limited to club members...but if you're not currently a member, why not join the RBC today and ride the roads of Rockland this weekend and the next 12 months for only $25!

  3. New Membership rates:  Our new member rates are now in effect: Individuals $25, Families $40. A two-year membership is available for individuals at $40 and family at $70.

  4. Coming soon: A new RocklandBike.org: We're putting the finishing touches on our new website. But while it's still under wraps, we still need help testing and tweaking content. Are you a graphic designer with skill to spare that wants to help us with a new logo? Have experience in web development or testing and want to help kick the tires? Email RocklandBike@gmail.com to help us get up and running!

This month's Rockland Cycling Feature: Back in the day, bicycles were manufactured in Rockland County. 100 years before the advent of shared city bikes, Nyack had its own spin on the concept called the Nyack Bike. Read all about when bikes were built in the Lower Hudson written by Mike Hays.

Help Wanted! The RBC is seeking volunteers to help us with this newsletter and our website. Also, we are always looking for new ride leaders and new rides and routes, too! Email rocklandbike@gmail.com to get involved. Until then, Ride Safe!
