Cheap Ass Padding

If you value your assets, you’ll need to put some padding under the trampoline on the edge of the tramp frame. You can get firm closed cell foam from speciality foam suppliers but you can get packs of interlocking foam floor tiles at Bunnings (and others) for only $12 in a variety of colours. Cut off the interlocking edges and cut into 3 strips wide enough to cover the edge of the tramp frame. Fix with cable ties so it can be replaced when compressed. More here

Catch the Drift

The Drift Ghost X has been released which, like the Drift Stealth it replaces, is small and light but the Ghost X has a battery life of 5 hours, wider angle lens (140 deg), a better sensor and wi-fi support. It costs $179 fin Australia. More here

Hot Skiff Suit

A thin 3mm surfing/skiff suit may be OK for warm days in light to medium winds but just a bit cool for winter sailing - especially in a Weta with sea temperatures in NSW of only 17 deg!
However, if you don't like the restriction of movement of full wetsuit, take a look at a "warm" skiff suit which provides additional insulation around the body core with a mixture of "thermo" and "metalite" layers - especially the front of the suit which is most affected by wind/water chill. Zhik have the Superwarm, Gill the Firecell and others claim thermal layers. The Gill and Zhik both have the benefit of a relief zipper which saves trying to fight your way out of the suit when you need to go! Best deal in Australia at Monkeyfist Marine with free shipping. Purple Marine in the UK have good pricing and reasonable shipping to Australia if you don't mind a wait.

Tip: Chocks Away!
Why you shouldn't chock your Weta.

The Weta is balanced on the trolley but this leaves a considerable gap between the rear support and the stern of the main hull. This isn’t a problem if you’re only trailing the boat short distances but it can become a problem over longer distances because of all the unsupported weight at the stern. This puts stress on the soft aluminium of the trolley frame  - especially you have additional heavy gear inside the cockpit of the boat.

The strain has been known to break or bend the aluminium arms of the trolley just behind the axle – particularly if you remove the wheels or put the trolley on chocks so that the trolley is sitting on the axle without any support for the rear "moosehead". It also applies to Combi trailers which leave the trolley wheels unsupported.

If you are travelling long distance, unless you have a bracket to support the back of the boat, it's better to have a flat-bed trailer with ramps, leave the trolley wheels on to provide cushioning and only put sails in the boat. Solutions here

Tip: Enterprising Tramp Lacing

It's much more convenient to pad the tramp edge and lace up the tramps if you insert the amas in the hull in the "Star Trek" position after threading the tramp sleeve onto the rear ama arm. Pad the tramp edge with foam and then tighten the lacing using a ladder stitch as shown in the Weta Manual.
