Currently Tropical Storm Florence is moving toward Lexington County at a very slow pace. Projections currently are for 3" to 8" of rain and sustained winds of 35 mph plus with wind gusts in the 40s and 50 mph range. Sporadic power outages are expected due to downed trees and you and your neighbors may be without power for hours or days depending on our power restoration crews (they are not allowed in wind conditions over 35 mph). Flooding is also expected, especially early next week as the runoff comes down river from NC and the Upstate.
Pastor Boland and our Church Executive Council do not want to place any member unnecessarily in harms way. Our membership area extends North and East into some areas expected to have greater storm effects than other parts of Western and Southern areas. Therefore, for all of these reasons, we decided to err on the side of safety and CANCEL all activities at our church for this weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Hopefully we will escape unharmed and without damage allowing church to resume a normal schedule on Monday, September 17th.
On behalf of the Congregation Council, please be safe and take necessary precautions. Stay at home and, if you still have power, you can watch a church service on TV or have a family devotion time together. Please also remember your neighbors and, if conditions allow and you are able to help, use that chain saw, take a meal or at least check on the elderly.
Peace be with you,
Bernie Lee
