Night Trams

Remembering the last night of the trams

Tram No. 40 will be back on the tracks to celebrate the anniversary of its trip through the streets of Ballarat as it became the last tram to operate on the Ballarat Tramway on 19 September 1971. Trams will be running on Wednesday 19 September 2018 between 7.00 and 9.00pm along the remaining section of original track, at the Ballarat Tramway at Lake Wendouree.

This will be the first time we have run two trams at night, and it will provide some great opportunities for photographs as the trams pass each other at the Gardens Loop. Trams will be leaving from the depot from 7.00pm, with the last trip finishing at 9.00pm.

Cost will be $5.00, and of course members will be free.  The displays and the other trams in our collection will be open for inspection. A range of books, DVDs and souvenirs will be available from the shop, including the 2019 Tram Calendar.

Wear something warm as it will be cold, and our Cosy Tram rugs will be available on board.

The last trams ran through the city of Ballarat on 19 September 1971. Accompanied by large crowds, and with hundreds of people crammed on board it was a night to remember. For this reenactment we are providing the dark and the trams, but we need you to be the crowd and bring the excitement!

Tram Showcase

Our annual Tram Showcase will be held on Sunday 30 September from 11.00am till 4.00pm. The day will feature our SEC tram fleet operating throughout the day, providing for some great photo opportunities, and a chance to ride on lots of trams. An all day ticket for $8.00 is available, and members are free.

Floral Tram

The next Floral Tram Workshops will be held at the Tram Depot on
  • Tuesday 2 October, 11.00am till 12.30
  • Sunday 14 October, 1.00pm till 3.00
The project has been featured in the Ballarat Courier last week, and on ABC Radio in Bendigo. Over 100 people have been working on creating the flowers and collecting the materials. Come along to our free workshops, and all the materials are provided. Or you can download the instructions to make flowers from the Ballarat Tramway Museum website and make them at home.

The Floral Tram will be operating during the Ballarat Begonia Festival, the first floral tram since 1939.
