Latest research: Macadamias perfectly poised to meet emotional snacking needs

The Australian macadamia industry has taken a deep dive into the world of snacking, with the release of consumer research findings into the snack category in both Asian and western markets. Examining established and emerging drivers of snack product consumption, the research unearthed innovation hotspots for macadamias in this dynamic category and represents the latest chapter of our industry’s Innovation Initiative. Comprising insights from consumers and food influencers, the findings revealed mood management as an emerging motivation for snacking. Relating to emotional uplift and gratification, mood management offers up fertile ground for new product development, with macadamias an ideal fit for this increasingly important emotional snacking space. What’s more, macadamias have a unique ability to resolve many of the tensions consumers typically experience when purchasing from the category. 2018 Australian macadamia crop forecast increased to 47,500 tonnes in-shell

The 2018 Australian macadamia crop is forecast to reach 47,500 tonnes in-shell at 3.5% moisture (51,000 tonnes at 10% moisture). The forecast is slightly higher than original expectations of 44,500 tonnes @ 3.5% with all growing regions performing well this season. Several factors have contributed to the higher crop, including favourable harvest conditions and minimal interruption by rain.
