JIPS - Joint IDP Profiling Service
Dear Colleague,

Our effort to coordinate our global and field activities was particularly strong in September. With a long-term, direct support in Sudan, we further strengthened our expertise on urban displacement and, together with ICRC and a high-level panel, we challenged assumptions and advocated for data-informed responses to it. In line with this position, we contributed to the latest Forced Migration Review issue by pointing out the significant gap between currently-available data and the Guiding Principles on internal displacement.

We also argued in favour of a robust community engagement approach during an HRC side-event, and are looking forward to supporting IDPs participation in the upcoming profiling exercise in Niger

➡️ If this all sounds exciting and you want to be part of it, don't miss the chance to join our team as Head of Field Support & Capacity Building!

On behalf of the JIPS team,
Corina & Linda

Spotlight on... urban displacement
ICRC's launch of the report "Displaced in Cities"

Unverified assumptions often form the basis of programmatic decision making in urban areas. This significantly limits the effectiveness of humanitarian action in meeting IDPs’ needs and finding solutions.

Instead, as highlighted in ICRC's latest report on urban displacement, “Displaced in cities; Experiencing and responding to urban internal displacement outside camps”, better responses must originate from better data and analysis and more coordinated action

At JIPS we couldn't agree more! Read about our take from ICRC's report and why it is critical to invest time and resources in a holistic analysis that connects people to the places they are settled in.

JOB OPENING

An exciting position as Head of Field Support & Capacity Building has opened. If you are passionate about influencing decision making through sound evidence and interested in working with governments and local partners all around the world, please apply by October 15th

Why is profiling needed in Niger and how can it support the national GP20 Plan of Action? We asked Valerie Svobodova, former Niger Protection Cluster coordinator, about the reasons behind their request for support, in preparation of our first mission to the country.
