Making Knowledge Public
In Vancouver? Check out this free lecture series from the Scholarly Communications Lab and Simon Fraser University. Topics include Calling Bullshit on Fake News and Citizen Science. Most lectures will take place at SFU's Burnaby campus, with some on the Vancouver campus. Each lecture will be followed by a networking session. Learn more and register on the colloquium website.
Call for Volunteer Resource Manager
We are looking for a Volunteer Resource Manager to serve as the first point of contact for the 30-40 Science Borealis volunteers. The Volunteer Resource Manager is responsible for recruitment, onboarding, renewals, support and offboarding of all volunteers. See the job description here for details.
Call for Social Media Volunteer
We are also looking for someone to help generate Social Media content that promotes and showcases our team and members of our blogging network. The time commitment would be 2-3 hours per week. See the job description for more details.
Call for Borealis Blog Subject Editors
We are looking for new Borealis Blog Subject Editors. These volunteers write for the Borealis Blog and oversee our syndicated feed for the 12 subject categories that Science Borealis covers.
The 10th Canadian Science Policy Conference, CSPC 2018, will take place November 7 - 9 at the Delta Hotel in Ottawa. Register today and receive the discounted Early Bird rate, available until September 30. Registration includes 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches and several receptions.
The Science Borealis New Science Communicator programs are designed to coach new science bloggers and provide them with experience working directly with editors on their work. These programs are not open to individuals. We work with sponsoring partners such as universities and professional organizations.
New Science Communicator Workshop: a stand-alone science communications workshop fully managed and delivered by Science Borealis.
Pitch and Polish: for students who are currently enrolled in a science communications course and are under the supervision of an instructor. Management and some editorial tasks are shared between the Science Borealis mentor and the students’ course instructor.
