JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager, Cancer Information Service, the Senior Information Specialist provides cancer information by telephone and email for the Canada-wide Cancer Information Service as well as engaging in activities to increase awareness and utilization of Canadian Cancer Society services, and other organizational priorities.

Sleep Disturbance in Adults with Cancer

This webinar will highlight evidence-based recommendations for the assessment and treatment of sleep disorders in adults with cancer with a particular focus on chronic insomnia. The ongoing Sleep Well trial will be described as a potential online resource for cancer survivors with chronic insomnia.

Webinar Objectives
  • Develop a greater understanding of sleep disorders in the context of cancer.
  • Learn about the optimal assessment and management of insomnia in adults with cancer.
  • Learn about access to the Sleep Well Study as a potential online resource for cancer survivors with chronic insomnia.
Speaker Bio
Dr. Cheryl Harris is a clinical, health, and rehabilitation psychologist at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. She is co-principal investigator of a randomized controlled trial investigating the effectiveness of online cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia in cancer survivors and evaluating potential side-effects of the treatment. She is co-author of the Pan-Canadian Practice Guideline: Prevention, Screening, Assessment and Treatment of Sleep Disturbances in Adults with Cancer, co-authored a chapter in the learning companion to the International Classification of Sleep Disorders Diagnostic and Coding Manual, and was co-editor of a publication distributed by the Canadian Sleep Society. Other research interests include psychological approaches to the management of cancer-related pain, fear of cancer recurrence, body image following cancer treatment, and stepped care.
