Welcome to the Spring edition of Club Spirit

The City is currently working on a number of strategic recreation projects, including a Sports Oval Floodlight Plan, a Community Recreation Facilities Plan and a Masterplan for the George Burnett Recreation Precinct.

The Sports Oval Floodlight Plan is expected to be finalised by December and a copy of the draft is available upon request. The Plan sets out a long term framework for the provision of sports oval floodlights across the City's five active reserves, aligning with the Australian Standard AS2560 series and the City's strategic documents

Congratulations to all teams who made the finals this year. The City looks forward to hearing about your finals campaign. Please contact me to feature your achievements in the Club Spirit or if you have had any recent changes to committee members.

Do you know that the City has a dedicated Club Development Officer who assists sport and recreation organisations to develop and thrive in the community? To find out how I can help your club contact me today.

Kind regards,

Ernest Johnson Reserve Upgrade

The first stage of the $10.5 million Ernest Johnson Reserve redevelopment was completed in January 2018, and the multi-purpose community facilities are being well used. The new hall and pavilion are home to local user groups and sporting clubs.

Stage Two of the project is nearing completion. The old turf on EJ Oval has been removed and the surface releveled, with approximately 2ha of new turf laid and new football goals installed. The fences surrounding the oval will be removed this week with the playing field once again accessible to all community members. New features include;

  • landscaping and planting
  • installation of paths, lighting, seating, barbeque, drinking
    fountains
  • a new playground and exercise equipment.

Additionally, new floodlights will be installed on all three ovals. Visit the project page for more information.
