1. MIDWEEK ORIENTEERING TRAINING BUNDY FOREST EAST WEDNESDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2018
The next Midweek Orienteering training event will be conducted on the Bundy Forest East map on Wednesday 19 September 2018.

There will be one course of Hard orienteering standard of 4.2 km in length with only a small amount of climb and 13 controls.

Signs will be from the junction of Dickers Road and Forreston Road (the Gumeracha to Williamstown road) 9.4 km north of Gumeracha; that is go past the Forreston CFS and the southern boundary of the Forest.

Starts will be any time between 11.00 am and 12.30 pm and course closure at 1.30 pm.

This course could possibly be used as a warm up for the Australian Championships with some events being conducted on nearby terrain. Accordingly the controls will be left out after the event until 6 October with eventually the map and course being on the Orienteering SA website https://sa.orienteering.asn.au
 

2. Saltbush Orienteers Street Event – Whyalla East on Sunday September 23rd
The start is at the south east area of the Ada Ryan Gardens, Cudmore Tce, Whyalla near the monument. 
Start times: anytime between 10am and 1pm, please return to the van by 3pm.
Courses will be available to suit all fitness levels.   
Remember to have comfortable walking shoes, hat and bring water.

3. MTBO SA CHAMPS this weekend!

A reminder that the SA Mtbo champs are on this weekend on an updated Fox Creek map.

This is a great location with a mixture of single track and 4Wd tracks and with Anderson winery (which serves great pizza) just 400metres up the road.   Enter on eventor by Tues night or contact Kay at kayhaarsma@hotmail.com (0403565534) asap thereafter with your name, year of birth and intended class.  Note that W50 class is available...was left off the Eventor list.

4. Help is needed for Australian Championships Carnival!
The Australian Championships are less than 2 weeks away, and to make these events run smoothly, additional helpers are needed for setting up and pulling down tents & bunting, car-parking, and control collecting. If you can make yourself available for any of these tasks on any of the race days (also some setting up will take place the day beforehand), please let that event’s organiser/s know:

5. SEPTEMBER OSA NEWSLETTER

The September OSA newsletter is online at https://sa.orienteering.asn.au/newsletter/2018_09/, and is now available as a PDF file to download and print for those who prefer to read a paper version. Click the newsletter link now to find out what readers in 10 countries have been looking at.
The newsletter has an update by Carnival Director Robin Uppill on the Australian Championships, and profiles on Olivia Sprod (Tintookies) and Angus Haines (Onkaparinga Hills), who have also written about their recent experiences representing Australia in various European championship events. Articles on the World Masters Orienteering Championships written by SA representatives include a gallery of event photos and a description of a mind blowing indoor-O event.
There are also a number of school reports, updates on some recent SA events, and an article on orienteering techniques written by 14 times gold medal world orienteering champion Thierry Gueorgiou.
A zoom feature has been added to most maps and some photos, which will make details easier to view.

6. SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN. FRIDAY, OCT 5.
It is the Carnival's 'free day', so come join the Invitational Team for these fun excursions!
1. SkyChallenge at Mega Adventure Park, West Beach. 9am. $40.
2. Dolphin Explorer Cruise and Sprint-O at Port Adelaide. 1.30pm. $7.

7. SCHOOLS INVITATIONAL TEAM CAMP, OCT 1-7
 West Beach Caravan Park.
Especially for those aged 9-18 who are not in State Schools Team, and their families, but all are welcome.
You can come just for the day, after doing the Carnival events in the morning.
There's a swimming pool, games, DIY O-course, and evening talks and activities.
 
$5 for Park Day Visitors fee. Gold coin for participating in organised orienteering activities.
$17 for dinner. This must be booked in advance. Contact Aylwin ayllim@netscape.net asap to book.

8. Coach a Team or Squad??
To all the coaches out there, Orienteering Australia is looking for you to take up a position coaching a team or squad in 2019. 

All of these positions are available, please consider
Our 2 main positions are 

  • OA Headcoach/Senior Squad coach (has 1st choice of being WOC Coach)
  • Junior Squad coach (has 1st choice of being JWOC Coach)
These 2 coaches are assisted by 
  • National Development Squad Coach
  • Targetted Talent Athlete Co-Ordinator
There are a number of squad tours this year, where we need a Coach and a Manager
  • 1 - 3rd June, NZ tour Coach, and Manager
  • 6 - 12th July, JWOC Coach, and Manager
  • 12 - 17th Aug, WOC Coach, and Manager
We are also looking at attending a couple of other competitions
  • 27 - 30th June, EYOC Coach/Manager
  • 20 - 25th Aug, Asian Youth Champs, Coach/Manager
  • 25 - 29th Oct, World Cup 4, Coach/Manager

9. Alice Springs Masters Games Orienteering Oct 14-17
If you’re looking for something to do after the Aust Champs in SA are over, and/or would like to compete in events which you don’t have to be involved with organising, head to Alice Springs for the biennial Masters Games which will include orienteering again, brought to you by Red Centre Orienteers and Top End Orienteers:

10. Entries are now OPEN for the Easter Carnival 2019
With 7 quality orienteering experiences in just 9 days now is the time to block out your calendar and plan to be in WA to experience the great range and variety of events on offer. With the Australia 3 Day Championships, the Australian Sprint Championships and the Australian Middle Distance Championships there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Plus, there is a bonus sprint relay on Good Friday and still time for seeing the sights of Peth and WA.
