This article from Control Design is about Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and what is termed high-mix, low volume manufacturing. The article includes an Intel Internet-of-Things Group study where Dr. Irene Petrick states, "In discrete (manufacturing), it's the expectation of customization."

Petrick has a prediction that manufacturers will begin to purchase production instead of capital equipment. With the gray tsunami of brainpower and expertise retiring, discrete digital manufacturing will grow and become more agile.

QC audit...1.6%
Last month, we had our first QC audit by a customer, in 48 years of business. This was done on-site at Hegwood Electric and we reviewed the 2018 to date non-conformance report. To date, we have built over 510 control systems and we had one batch of eight (8) parts that weren't in compliance. The component that caused the problem was a solenoid valve from a major manufacturer. The math works out that we had a 1.6% error rate. Besides our usual electrical quality control checks, we are now incorporating a pneumatic check to assist our customer in their quality control. Great job, Hegwood Electric Team!

Charity...
On September 7th, we participated in the annual Marel charity event. This event raises money for the Edmondson Telford Child Advocacy Center - ETAC. Together with a few clowns friends, we had a fun time in assisting ETAC and Marel. Our team didn't win, of course, but the day was sunny, the grass was green, and we had some laughs. Thanks to Donnette Bowman for the invite and please visit the ETAC website to see the wonderful work they are doing.
