HUGE Hero: Doctor Pockets PhD
KA-BAAM!! the improvised Comic Book on Saturdays at 8pm through the end of October is home to the most beautifully-named heroes thanks to audience suggestions.  Doctor Pockets PhD as portrayed by Susannah Eckberg was a season highlight from opening night that I am still laughing about. Congratulations to the cast and fans of KA-BAAM!!

Ask Jill

Each month Director of Education Jill Bernard answers questions about improv.  Here's some!

Denzel asked, “Dream specialty classes you hope one day HUGE can offer?”
I have a dream that there will one day be a class with eight students who pledge to stay together for a year and the focus of the class will be custom-designed, driven by the students' needs and passions. The way they will be paired up is there will be three works of art in a room. As the students come in one at a time, they will be asked to approach the work of art that appeals to them most. The students that all gravitate to the same work of art will be paired together for the year. This is a weird dream that will never happen but that is what some dreams are for!

Serpico asked, “Shoes with best arch support for the improviser with aching feet?”
This is a trick question because it is all about the insole! I swear by the green SuperFeet.

Noel asked, “How do I get out of my head when I'm on stage?”

The only way to not be in your head is to be somewhere else instead. There are lots of places to be. Your emotion, your feet, the space, your partner’s eyes, the genre, etc. If you’re already in your head, though, the best thing to do is notice without judgement, laugh at yourself, then let that over-consciousness fly away like a butterfly, then proceed.

Laura asked, “What are some effective ways to refocus and move forward in a scene if you can't seem to stop laughing?”
None, there are none, nothing can be done but surrender. And if you’re in Show X what will happen is everyone else will tag in as your scene partner and just leave your giggling self out there for upwards of fifteen minutes, good luck.
