October Dress Down
October is Breast Cancer awareness month. Given how many of our community have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, I would like to express our support by allowing students to come to school on Fridays dressed in the pink top of their choice (the color pink, not the logo). St. John tops of their choice is still acceptable on Fridays as well.

And, this is the last week for shorts. Students must wear long pants to school beginning Tuesday, October 16.

Thank you PTO
The sandwiches, soups and deserts that you brought in on Thursday for the teachers were delicious. After all you do for the school already, please accept our heartfelt gratitude for the meal.

Remind
If you have not done so already, I strongly encourage you to join this emergency School communication site: remind.com/join/jgieryn. I will use it to communicate last minute schedule changes and school closings.

DayCare/LatchKey
Our DayCare and LatchKey enrollment is nearly at its limit. Some days we are at maximum capacity. Therefore, I strongly encourage you to reserve your spot as early in advance as possible. Additionally, although we have perhaps the lowest rates in the area, we charge $1/hr more for unannounced drop-ins. Please let us know if have to cancel your scheduled time in DayCare or LatchKey, so we don't have to turn others away.

Middle School Service
Soon it will be October and many middle school service projects will begin. Our first project for the year will be sock babies for the NICU in Iowa City.  Sock dolls are given to new parents to use to comfort their babies if they are too little or sick and can not go home yet. The Mom, Dad or caregiver can place the doll inside their clothing, close to the skin and the doll will soak up their scent. The next time they visit the baby, the doll is placed near the baby to snuggle and/or prop towards and the baby will feel the comfort and smell of their loved one. Please help us in this effort to provide comfort to NICU babies by donating toddler socks size 12-24 months size. If you are able to donated more then one pair, it would help us to provide cuddles to more then one NICU unit in surrounding areas too.

Attention
Volunteers and drivers... We are obligated to comply with a new Archdiocesan policy. If you plan to either serve as a volunteer or an event/trip driver during the upcoming school year, you must complete the following trainings - Safe Environments and Be Smart Drive Safe. These trainings can be found at cmgconnect.org. We are part of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. If you have already completed the Driver course, you will not be required to take it again, but all volunteers that work with or around our students must complete the Safe Environments course (It is a 75 minute video).
