I am proud to announce the launch of my most recent Online Video Course. This course was filmed at renowned finishing expert, Jeff Jewitt's shop, and is about how to apply a Urethane finish to a guitar. Jeff Jewitt is the go to source on anything finishing related. He has written books on the subject of finishing and is a contributor to Fine Woodworking magazine. He also runs his own finishing supply company called Homestead Finishing Products. In the past we did a course together on spraying lacquer. In this course he takes it to the next level and shows how to get a factory high gloss finish with urethane.
Learn about:
- Surface prep - the secret to a high quality finish
- What an isolante is and why/how to use it
- Why polyester and urethane
- What do dry, cure and burn in mean
- How to use dry transfer decals
- Spraying basecoats
- Sanding the finish
- Spraying topcoats
- CA glue for finish repairs
- Dry sanding vs. wet sanding
- Leveling and buffing to a high gloss
- How to remove the finish in the bridge area
I have been finishing guitars for many years and my best finishes were done using urethane. Now all the information and expertise about this finish is available in a comprehensive, easy to follow online video course from Jeff Jewitt.
The Online Courses are a core feature of the O’Brien Guitars website, and we are always looking forward to improving your experience with our courses. I’m happy to announce a big improvement to watching videos online: we’ve partnered with Vimeo!
Vimeo is a known and reliable video service, and from now on they will host our online courses. Until recently, the material you watched online came straight from the download servers, in a single format. With Vimeo, you will now be able to experience a much better player interface, including:
- Multiple video resolutions, with manual or automatic selection depending on your connection speed
- Ability to control the speed of video playback
- Better cross browser compatibility
- Faster loading
Over the past several weeks we have been moving the video courses to the Vimeo servers. I am pleased to announce that all of the transitioning of the online courses to the new hosting is complete. All of the online courses available on my website now have these nice new features mentioned above.
I hope you enjoy the new viewing experience
