ADO Grant Season in Full Swing!
—
With the Artist-Driven Organizations (ADO) grant application fast approaching (October 24), ARCA wishes to draw your attention to a few useful resources. You may know about them already, but it’s nice to have them gathered together in one spot.
I’m reminded of a meeting with tri-level funders convened as part of the Atlantic region’s AGM in June 2014, during which a program officer reaffirmed “the importance of self-determination in shaping the vision of ARCs,” and added that the CCA does not encourage thin, broad engagement but, rather, engagement with the arts community on the community’s own terms and language to ensure that your activities reach your publics, however these may be defined. Engagement is assessed as part of “impact” (with a report soon to be published on the Canada Council’s website.)

ARCA is proud to announce that its first print run of the Grey Guide is now entirely in circulation. A second print run is currently in the works, to be delivered in time for Volume 1, Montreal’s new art book fair. Take a look at their amazing programming.
Register before October 5th for the workshop (in French, mostly) on art publishing and circulation to be offered in Montreal by the RCAAQ during Volume 1.

Handy Resources
—
In a press release published June 23rd, the Canada Council’s for the Arts describes what percentage of the new funding was distributed to core-funded organizations in the first round, and how much was left to be distributed in the second round. In the first round (2017–18), some two thirds of the global 55% increase was committed, leaving one third to be distributed over the next two fiscal years: 2018–19 and 2019–20 (see table below). There has never been a better opportunity to position your organization’s activities with “the most persuasive arguments concerning how these relate to the assessment criteria for the program to which you are applying,” and emphasizing the potential tangible and less tangible impacts of these activities.

Visualizing Funding data 2009−19
—
Finally, the following graphs and tables produced by ARCA, using data compiled after each funding application cycle, represent the distribution of core funding per province from 2009 to 2017–18—an overall 30% increase—and ARC’s average core grant for each province.

And for a refresher on artist-run centres

This study by MDR Burgess Consultants from 2011 remains insightful.
