A Celebration of the Canonization of St. Archbishop Oscar Romero - Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero will be made a saint of the Roman Catholic Church at a Vatican ceremony on Sunday, October 14, 2018.  Romero was murdered in 1980 for speaking out against military oppression, gunned down at the altar while celebrating Mass. He offered prophetic preaching in defense of God’s poor in El Salvador and used the message of the gospel to speak out against the government’s systematic kidnapping and killing of more than 70,000 peasants, church workers, priests, and nuns.  Archbishop Romero knowingly put his own life in jeopardy to bring about justice and peace. His actions for the poor of El Salvador caused Vatican theologians to declare Romero a martyr in 2015, using a very strong statement that he was killed in odium fidei, “in hatred of the faith.”

Please join other parishioners to celebrate this great occasion in the history of our church, the canonization of a modern day saint and martyr. We will be showing the movie Romero on Monday, October 8 at 2:00 pm and on Sunday, October 14 at 12:30 pm in the Pope rooms in the administration building. Discussion to follow for those who wish.

GIVING, PRAYING & SERVING - Did you know? ...for us at St. Patrick Catholic Community, "Stewardship" is more than a word, it is a way of life. It is also one of the five pillars of our parish. Stewardship is lived through the action of Giving, the action of Praying, and the action of Serving. Together, we call these “GPS.” Just as an electronic GPS helps people navigate a journey toward a destination, Stewardship GPS guides our community along the journey of knowing, loving and serving God more. Stewardship is rooted in gratitude. It is a way of living one’s life, based in one’s sense of radical gratitude to God, creator of all things. Out of the desire to demonstrate our thankfulness to God, we reach out in caring and love to share the gifts we have been given with others. Thank you for your commitment to Stewardship GPS!

October 10 is World Homeless Day - It seems appropriate that as we spend time during the month of October reflecting more deeply on the first Beatitude, Blessed are the poor in spirit, there would be a day this month that calls us to recognize the poor in spirit in those who are experiencing homelessness. Barb Nicol, our Coordinator of Social Justice and Outreach, came across this student-produced video that reflects on the issue of homelessness and the Beatitudes. Click on the player below to watch the video. Please keep those experiencing homelessness in your prayers and consider ways you may be able to help. In faith, we know that God is with us and them, and we hold to the promise of the Beatitude: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven."
