Committee recommended to reject Bearwood Road mosque application

Sandwell Council’s planning committee will be recommended to reject plans for a place of worship and community centre for Gambian Muslims at 409 Bearwood Road at the next committee meeting on 3rd October.

Abbey Councillor Bob Piper, who sits on the planning committee, said, “The objections to this application are overwhelmingly about the lack of parking in the area, and the likely congestion on Bearwood Road generated by up to 250 worshippers for Friday prayers. This is not an issue of whether a Muslim place of worship is appropriate. The only issue in that respect is that the worshippers in this instance would be travelling in to Bearwood from outside the area, and likely to use cars to get here. As I have repeatedly said, if the application was for a bingo hall with 250 bingo players coming in to the area for a jackpot session on Friday lunchtimes, I am certain there would be equally strong protests from people living nearby.

IN WARLEY WOODS

Procession of Light 2018
Warley Woods
6pm Saturday 20th October

The good people behind Bearwood Action for Refugees have announced their annual Procession of Light will be returning to Warley Woods for the third year running and they’re looking forward to attracting a really positive turn out yet again from our Bearwood community.

It’s a great event for all the family, and with the opportunity to make your own torch lantern beforehand. It is so wonderfully atmospheric, walking through the beautiful woods at twilight. A really powerful way of showing our solidarity with refugees at home and abroad.

What's Not For the Blue Bin...

We are thrilled by the amount of recycling the people of Bearwood do using their Blue Bin. Unfortunately we are seeing a high volume of materials in our blue bins that cannot be recycled in this way.
Please use the handy graphic above to determine what should not be placed in your blue bin. From November 30th these materials will no longer be collected, instead an alert will be placed on your bin asking that you remove these materials to enable us to recycle the contents of your bin on the next collection date.
