What's on in 2018?
Writing Our Story - Shaping the Future

In August, we held our first 'Writing our Story' event, at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow. This brought together friends, colleagues and learning partners to reflect on our current context, the future of public services, and the collective role we can all take in their delivery with the aim of shaping the future of Workforce Scotland.

We will be holding a second Writing our Story event on the 25th October in Edinburgh, to:

  • Share and discuss the outputs of our first event on 30 August;
  • Explore the future of Workforce Scotland - where could and should we be making a collaborative impact over the coming years;
  • Shape a collaborative and collective future strategy for Workforce Scotland and public services

It is aimed at colleagues working within public and third sector organisations who recognise they have a role to develop organisations, whether formally in an OD or learning and development role within public services or carrying out these tasks as part of everyday service delivery.

If you are interested in participating we'd be grateful if you could connect with senior leaders and other change makers within your organisation to ensure that it's properly represented. You may also want to share this event with partners or stakeholders you have in other public service organisations who you feel may wish to contribute.

Thank you
After a number of years working within the Workforce Scotland team and ensuring everything has run like clockwork, we are sad to say goodbye to our former Communications & Programme Co-ordinator, Kirsty Merriman, who has moved on to a new role within Scottish Government.

A heartfelt thank you to Kirsty for all her hard work and dedication and, although she will be sorely missed, a big congratulations from the whole of the Workforce Scotland team on her new position. We know you'll do a fantastic job!

As many of you have been speaking to Kirsty as your point of contact for Workforce Scotland, we'd be grateful if you could now email
ingage@gov.scot and we'll get back to talk to you about your enquiry.
Collective Leadership
Collective Leadership Round-up
There has been a lot happening with our work on Collective Leadership since we launched the programme in January 2018.

Almost all our facilitators are now actively supporting teams across the country addressing the complex issues Scotland faces, from mental  health to domestic violence. Taster Sessions have been held right across the country for people to learn more about the programme and, this month, we are also holding an event on our first Collective Leadership research and practice publication which we have co-designed through a peer review.

We are under way with plans to develop an International Collective Leadership Faculty, as well as a Research and Practioner Network, and we'll shortly be holding our next Facilitation Development Programme for our new cohort of facilitators. Not to mention our upcoming Collective Leadership event in November.

We will shortly be publishing a regular Round-up so you can keep up to date with all things Collective Leadership - watch this space.

'What are we learning about Collective Leadership?'
We are delighted to invite you to attend our first Collective Leadership learning event on Thursday 15 November in Edinburgh from 10am until 1pm.

This will be an opportunity to learn about the real work taking place across Scotland through our participant sites. We will also be launching our Collective Leadership Publication Series and Faculty.

Get involved in the Fire Starter Festival!
Fire Starter Festival will be back in from 28 January to 8 February 2019!

The annual festival highlights and celebrates innovation and creativity in Scottish public services, with a particular focus on transformational change.

Within the context of austerity, decreasing budgets and increasing demand, the festival gives public services an opportunity to share what is working and how it is making a difference, and allows us all to learn from one another, maximising our collective resources. It gives public, third sector, community and charitable organisations - no matter their size - an equal opportunity to share, engage and learn from one another within a national platform.

The festival also offers a place to hold a national conversation across silos and boundaries about big issues or questions about public services and to prototype possible approaches or solutions. It is also about connectivity and finding a catalyst, be it a question, topic, an individual, organisation or a piece of work that sparks a fire and a drive to go and do things different.

Do you have a creative idea, a burning question or something you want to share? Why not host a Fire Starter Festival event!

If you are interested in being a part of the Fire Starter Festival, you can find more information about how to get involved on our website or by contacting ingage@gov.scot

Why not watch our 4 minute introduction to the festival, or watch the video below to find out how we held a silent disco in Kelvingrove to launch Fire Starter Festival 2018!
